Our fabrication and design origins drive back a couple generations, where matriarchs stood tall and creativity was synonymous with entrepreneurship. Celebrating International Women’s History Month by honoring our own ancestor and matriarch, Natividad Mendoza Bautista, dawning her own design and creation on her wedding day - September 7th, 1958.
Natividad was an ate (older sister) to many, a designer of fashion, entrepreneur of many trades, auditor of the state, teacher english, wife to Carding, mother to 5, love of Elvis - an icon to say the least.
A colonial tool. A class marker. A flag. An anchor home. The Barong has taken on different meanings over many generations and continues to evolve in design and use. Swipe to read a glimpse into its history.
Our (online) shop is open for business! Last week, we rung in this new chapter of Niana with our community surrounded around a table of good food and even better people.
As we look ahead into 2026, we are excited to get back in person at markets and pop-ups! Comment “silogs” below to join our email list and we’ll see you soon at upcoming events.
