Thirty years ago, NHSQ began as a small but mighty effort to help Queens families hold onto their homes, build financial stability, and strengthen their communities—block by block, neighbor by neighbor. Since then, we’ve served over 3,650 Queens households (approximately 12,000 individuals), helping families gain the tools, skills, and support to build lasting stability. Here’s what our 2024 impact looks like: 793 low-to-moderate income households served $5M+ in mortgages secured for first-time homebuyers 70% graduation rate in digital skilling programs 365 families supported through Adopt-a-Family $156K in home repair grants distributed 2,100+ attendees across 118 financial and housing workshops 42% of program participants pre-approved for mortgages From preventing foreclosure to launching tech careers to delivering meals—we’re creating opportunity, ownership, and generational wealth right here in Queens. Cohort 2 is officially underway! 🎂 Neighborhood Housing Services of Queens is proud to kick off the second cohort of our Icing on the Cake baking and entrepreneurship program — a hands-on initiative designed to help community members turn passion into opportunity. Through this 9-week program, participants gain training in baking fundamentals, cake decorating, kitchen safety, pricing, branding, and financial planning while building the confidence and skills needed to grow as entrepreneurs. Hosted at The Casita commercial kitchen, this program is more than baking — it’s about creating pathways to income generation, small business development, and long-term financial empowerment right here in Queens.
