In our latest Dear Future Me message, 13-year-old Joe @joe.s_garden_patch from Heckington & Sleaford YFC reads a letter to his future self — a message about passion, hard work, and following your dreams. When Joe was just eight, he asked his mum for a couple of Jacob sheep. Her reply? “You’ll need to raise the money yourself.”
So he did — selling veg, seedlings, and eggs until he could buy his first ewes. Now with 60 sheep of his own, Joe’s dream is to one day educate more people about where their food comes from and inspire others to get involved in farming. 🎥 Be inspired and watch Joe’s “Dear Future Me” story now! #YFCMakesADifference #YFCisforEveryone #YoungFarmers #YoungFarmersClubs #YFCdoitbest #YFC #rurallife #nationalyoungfarmersweek

Taking part in the Performing Arts competition has given Luke from @eardisley_yfc , @herefordshire_fyfc a voice, he says. And it’s a voice that earned him the Best Performance in a Supporting Role (10-17) at this year’s national final, supported by @kuhn_uk . Luke, who played a pompous wine taster, was “chuffed” to win and says the competition is much more than just acting and drama performances. Well done to Luke! #YFCMakesAdifference #YFCisforEveryone #YoungFarmers #YoungFarmersClubs YFCdoitbest

Understanding the pressures for young farmers and having support on hand is a goal @lincsyfc county has worked hard to achieve. This year’s Junior Member of the Year winner Ben Watson from @louthyoungfarmers has been one of the key players in supporting that mission in his own club and has even gone on to help set up a county Youth Forum to bring younger members together. Ben is proud that every club in Lincolnshire now has a support worker from Lincolnshire Rural Support Network (LRSN) and explained to the judges at the national final what a difference that has made. Well done Ben! Many thanks to Sian Pritchard, Managing Director at @kuhn_uk , for helping to judge this award. #YFCMakesAdifference #YFCisforEveryone #YoungFarmers #YoungFarmersClubs #YFCdoitbest

YFC Friday Faves has landed – is your YFC among this week's highlights? We're loving seeing all the fun you're having at Rallies across England and Wales, with some fundraisers and educational talks all going on too! Well done to all the committees who are juggling life with YFC commitments! You're doing an amazing job – thank you! This week's top picks: 🚜 @NewboroughYFC 's annual tractor road run was held in memory of Hayden Grooby this year and pulled in more tractors than they have had since before the pandemic. They also raised thousands for Deepings Round Table too. 🥇 @AshleyYFC_ celebrated their fourth consecutive victory at the Rally. As well as being the overall winners, the club came away with the Rose Bowl for Floral Art and a win in Farm Safety Skills. 🏆 @Royston.Buntingford_yfc Juniors enjoyed the Rally, displaying their 1940s float and brought home some first place prizes. 🏃‍♂️ @Brockenhurstyoungfarmers held a Young Farmers Fun Run, which was organised by a group of young members for their President's Challenge. The theme was Spring time – and the outfits didn't disappoint with people running as bananas and farm animals around the New Forest Showground. 🧪 @HarmstonYFC got to be scientists for the night by learning about crop breeding with a talk from KWS. They learnt about the scale of the business and carried out experiments, including extracting the DNA from raspberries. 👚 @Kenilworth.YFC wore pink to the County Rally to show their support to @Breast_Cancer_Now_ in memory of a much-loved member of the club who sadly died last year. The club also got to show off their new pink Tug of War Shorts, courtesy of @Hexby_ ! Well done everyone! Here's to another week of YFC fun. #yfcisforeveryone #yfcmakesadifference #yfcdoitbest #youngfarmers

Know the signs and understand how to support someone. This Mental Health Awareness Week, we’re giving YFC members the opportunity to register for a free online course, developed by the Farm Safety Foundation @yellowwelliesuk , with the @thebatonofhope and The Royal Foundation of the @princeandprincessofwales , that’s focused on:

✔ recognising when someone may be struggling
✔ knowing how to support others
✔ looking after your own wellbeing too. Sometimes small actions and conversations can make a real difference. Use the link in our bio to sign up before 4 June! Counties also get £100 if more than 7 people from your county take the course, thanks to The Farm Safety Foundation. #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek #YoungFarmers #yfcdoitbest

Mental health awareness is a key focus for Louth YFC Chair Tom Watson. After a tragedy impacted the club in 2024, the club has created a supportive space for its 60 members, with help from Lincolnshire Rural Support Network (LRSN). Q. How do you support members’ mental health in your club? We try to create an environment where members feel comfortable talking openly and supporting one another. A big part of Young Farmers is the social side and the friendships people build, which can really help with isolation and stress, especially in rural communities. We regularly check in with members, encourage conversations and make sure people know they are not alone. We are also fortunate in Lincolnshire to have LRSN, who provide a representative for every YFC. This is a valuable resource, as there is always someone available to help if people need someone to talk to. Q. Why do you think it's important for club officers to be aware of mental health issues? Club officers are often the people members see and speak to most regularly, so it’s important we can recognise when someone might not be themselves. Sometimes small changes in behaviour, confidence or attendance can be signs that someone is struggling. Having awareness means we can step in early, offer support and point people in the right direction if needed. In rural communities especially, mental health can sometimes still be difficult to talk about, so it’s important that clubs help break that stigma. Q. Recommendations for other club officers to support members' mental health? Being approachable and creating an environment where members feel comfortable speaking openly without judgement. Regularly checking in with members, especially those who may have gone quiet or stopped attending, can make a big difference. Today we say goodbye and celebrate the life of a truly valued member of our organisation, Lionel Hill MBE. As a former President (2006-2011) and supporter of Worcestershire County Federation, Lionel gave his time, wisdom, humour, and encouragement to generations of young people. His impact will not be forgotten, and his memory will continue to live on in the stories, friendships, and experiences he helped create. Our thoughts are with his loved ones and members of @worcestershireyfc as we gather today to remember Lionel. Rest peacefully.
