🚨Last Friday, March 6th, 2026, Students with
@banksoffcampus_uoft . Did a banner drop for RBC x Rotman “Sustainability“ Finance Week 2026.
Why?
Because it is hypocritical that RBC is sponsoring a week of sustainability solutions when they are one of the biggest contributors to the climate crisis. In 2022, they were the biggest funder of fossil fuel projects in the world. They consistently, and violently, violate Indigenous rights to push through fossil fuel projects, including the Coastal GasLink pipeline. Since the Paris Agreement in 2016, they’ve spent $263 billion for companies to expand oil, coal, and gas.
The student banner drop was silent, outside and turned away from the conference event.
Rotman kicked us out.
They called three special constables, And this guy named Steven Moore. He threatened to arrest us and told us that if we didn’t leave, we would be trespassing and could never, EVER, come back to the building again.
Supposedly, the banner drop was not peaceful, not lawful, and posed a safety threat, boasted about his role at the encampment brutalizing students and said that we were being “coddled by the university”.
He mocked in patronizing condescension: “Get ready to enter the real world."Last time we checked, we are in the real world.
🔥Millions of people are dying from the climate crisis. We cannot keep supporting false, greenwashing solutions that stall a just transition away from fossil fuels. Our world is burning.
😡The unsubstantiated threats students faced on Friday reflects a weaponization of UofT’s new protest guidelines. Police are able to take advantage of the guideline’s obscurity to justify repression, even if students are protesting peacefully. But most importantly, the existence of these guidelines is a major threat to our democracy.
Oppression doesn’t stop at UofT’s curfews.
📣Join us this Friday, March 13th, to strike the protest guidelines! The rally will be at 4pm in front of Sid Smith.
