Allow us to introduce ourselves 🤍🚀 We are the New College branch of student-led The PEARS Project (@thepearsproject ). We are a trauma-informed coalition that provides support and resources to survivors across the University of Toronto. Founded and led by survivors, we recognize survivors as leaders in the field and the voices which need to be heard to implement policy change We provide peer support, run educational programming, ensure that a voice and platform is given to survivors, and address the systemic issues of rape culture on post-secondary campuses. By creating a community and resource network that is by and for survivors, we have created a place to better support one another. Join us in our advocacy today! NOTE: NASAH is available to answer questions on how to navigate setting boundaries using trauma-informed framework or to provide additional support and resources. This Tuesday, we’re talking about anti-Black racism and disparities within the healthcare system. 🚀 In Canada, anti-Black racism throughout education, diagnosis, and treatment continues to result in poorer health outcomes for Black Canadians. Medical practitioners are often taught to view race as a scientific and biological truth, causing internalized biases that systemically ignore the health struggles of Black people. Black women in particular face a specific kind of discrimination that compounds race and gender, where their sexual health is ignored or pushed because of medical misinformation and lack of individual care. It’s important to know that health struggles and social issues related to medicine are linked to systemic structures of racism and marginalization. 🤍 Information from today’s post was retrieved from: Canadian Medical Association Journal, Queen’s University, Action Canada for Sexual Health and Rights, NIH NOTE: NASAH is available to answer questions on how to navigate setting boundaries using trauma-informed framework or to provide additional support and resources. This week, we’re talking about Black History Month. 🚀 Every February marks Black History Month, where we celebrate and honour Black Canadians who have been the backbone of the nation. Canada’s 2026 theme for BHM is “30 Years of Black History Month: Honouring Black Brilliance Across Generations — From Nation Builders to Tomorrow’s Visionaries.” This theme honours the nation builders of the past and looks toward future leaders in social justice. Black history and racism have always been intertwined with reproductive rights; Black women have historically always been the ones at the forefront fighting for the right to have choice over our bodies. Access to proper reproductive care will always be an issue that we tackle through an intersectional lens. 🤍 Information from today’s post was retrieved from: Government of Canada, Planned Parenthood NOTE: NASAH is available to answer questions on how to navigate setting boundaries using trauma-informed framework or to provide additional support and resources. Inquiring about further resources and support can be accessed through the form in our Linktree. Tags: #nasah #nasahpears #thepearsproject #newcollege #uoft
