TO YOU, FROM GALAPAGGOT [GALAPAGGOT] won the 22nd Korean Music Award for Best Electronic Album, thank you from the bottom of my heart. — 안녕하세요, NET GALA입니다. 22회 한국대중음악상에서 [GALAPAGGOT]가 최우수 일렉트로닉 앨범 상을 받게 되었습니다. 3년만의 릴리즈를 준비하면서, 그리고 앨범 활동을 하면서 이렇게 큰 영예를 안게 되어서 너무나 기쁘고 멍했네요 하… 무슨 말을 해야할까요… 수상소감이 좀 길었습니다. 근데 저희는 참 할 말이 많지만 할 수 있는 창구도 제한적이고, 때론 추상적으로 전달하고자 하는 이야기들이 많다보니 (변명처럼 들리긴 하겠지만 음악가 동료들은 이해할 것입니다) 말도 많고 참 화도 많습니다. 그래서 조금은 현실적인 이야기를 해보겠습니다. 전자음악은 그 어느 장르보다도 정통성에서 벗어난 새로운 생각과 어법에 더욱 관대한 장르이다보니, 다양한 의논이 오고갈 수 있음에도 불구하고 그 방대한 내용을 한데 모아서 이야기할 수 있는 여지도 참 부족합니다. 그래서 그 자리에 섰을때, 조금은 답답하고 조금은 숨통이 트이는 양가감정이 들어서 준비한 이야기들을 좀 읽어봤습니다. 이태원에서 음악을 한다는게 가끔은, 내가 어디까지 나를 내려놓을 수 있을까, 내가 언제까지 이걸로 생계를 이어갈 수 있을까, 라는 생각을 하게 만듭니다. 음악만 해서 살아가는게 사치일 정도로요. 우스갯소리로 우린 그저 21세기 기생이다라고 말하는 것은 사실 어느정도 뼈가 있는 말이긴 합니다. 술도 팔고 웃음도 파니까요. 대신 이곳에는 커뮤니티가 있습니다. 크고 작은 시련을 함께 견뎌나갈 만큼 강합니다. 가끔은 우리네 사람들은 고립과 소외 속에서 혼자 고독과 아픔을 씹어가면서 시간을 보내는 때가 많은데요, 이럴 때마다 손을 내밀 수 있는 사람들이 있다는 것이 얼마나 소중하고 아름다운지 몰라요. 그래서 더욱 지리와, 내가 살고 있는 이 곳에 대한 음악을 만들고 싶었는지도 모릅니다. 척박한 땅 작은 흙 무더기에 고고히 발 하나만 딛고 오랜 시간 서있는 플라밍고를 상상하며 만들었습니다. 2025년 서울에서 음악을 한다는 것, 음악씬이 점점 수평적으로는 다양한 음악이 생기고 많은 아티스트들이 활약하며 넓어지고 있지만 수직적으로는 설 자리들이 점점 사라지고, 무드보드에 수납되면서, 수많은 음악 생산자들, 예술 창작자들이 초거대자본의 용역자로써만 큰 돈을 만지고 살아남을 수 있는 슬픈 현실이 직면하고 있습니다. 앨범단위로 음악을 듣고 공연을 찾는 사람도 줄고 있더라고요. 그럼에도 불구하고 저희는 정진합니다. 시상식의 결과는 결국 누구의 앨범이 더 좋다라는 것이 아닌, 건강한 대화의 순환과 좋은 음악의 발견, 그리고 물리적으로 흩어져있는 수많은 인디 씬을 결집하는 좋은 작용 중 하나니까요. 앨범에 함께한 @rancapduoi 와 @k_supermotel , 후보에 오른 모든 음악가들에게 박수를 보내며, 특히 저에게 가장 올해 귀감이 되었고 함께 후보에 올라서 너무나 영광이었던 @hwhwi_ 와 @soundsupply_service 에게 큰 축하를, 그리고 저의 뿌앵을 런던에서도 보고 서울에서도 보게 된 동지 @mountxlr 에게도 이 영광을. T H A N K Y O U 💕 Thank you for the love and support you gave me in 2024, that stretches till now and onwards. My first EP was out in 2019, and I never looked back, and here we are. It’s so hard to keep your faith in these uncertain times, I almost thought about quitting music. I just love making good music with good friends, and sharing it with those who understand the passion of creating something. 2024 made me realize to loosen up, put my faith into what I believe in, and just work hard. Sometimes a bit of stupidity works, not thinking too much about how much I make, or who I’ll be impressing is still making me focus on making music. Thank you for being next to me and forever grateful for those who were with me in 2024, through the ups and downs. +THANK YOU+ 3 years. Took so long to finally release this into the world, but man it was definitely worth it. I almost forgot how to release things, but also forgot that behind every release, there’s such a emotional journey that I accompany with. It’s an album that really captures what I’ve been feeling, being born and raised in Seoul. Maybe this is a start of my own journey, I’m always curious and open to a lot of different possibilities that me and my music have.
