Thank you @doc.iggy 🖤🖤🖤 The weight of being “the only one” is real and it’s time we talk about it. 🖤 Being a minority in medicine means your mistakes echo louder than your wins. It means walking into rooms where you have to prove yourself before you even open your mouth. It means carrying a weight that most of your colleagues will never see, never feel, and often never ask about. And the hardest part? Nobody’s talking about it. At NEMA, we believe that physician wellbeing and equity go hand in hand. We can’t build a healthier community without first protecting the people doing the healing, especially those who’ve had to fight twice as hard just to be in the room. This is why we exist. This is why the conversation can’t stop here. 🔗 Learn more about our work: 💬 Drop a 🖤 if this resonated with you. Share this with a physician who needs to know they’re not alone. #NEMA #BlackInMedicine #PhysicianWellness #HealthEquity #CommunityBeyondTheBesaide

Congratulations to our very own Dr. Karen Abdool, MD, PhD, on receiving the prestigious Black Excellence Award from Representative Day! It was truly an honor to witness Black Excellence on the Hill a powerful reminder of the brilliance, leadership, and impact Black physicians bring to medicine, policy, and our communities. Dr. Abdool’s unwavering commitment to justice in health care, advocacy, and uplifting Black physicians reflects the very mission and vision we stand on. No one is more worthy of this recognition. Dr. Abdool embodies excellence, integrity, and service and we celebrate her leadership, her legacy, and her continued dedication to advancing equity in medicine. Please check out all of her incredible work with NEMA, especially her leadership in our monthly White Coat Trauma & Racism Support Groups, where she helps create brave, healing spaces for Black physicians navigating the realities of structural racism in medicine. That work is transformative, necessary, and lifesaving. #BlackExcellence #BlackPhysicians #HealthEquity #NEMA #JusticeInMedicine
