“Evan’s artistic fathers are the fathers of abstraction. But his mothers are the air, land, and waters of his home.”

Based in Venice, California, Ned Evans has been part of the Los Angeles art community since the 1970s. His abstract paintings are deeply connected to Southern California’s light and landscape. Through layered color, rhythm, and material experimentation, Evans creates works that feel both structured and open, reflecting a long-standing engagement with surface and perception.

Ned Evans: Liquid Light, Opening Reception: May 8th 5:30 -7:30
RAM is pleased to present Liquid Light, our first solo presentation with Ned Evans. Spanning the last 18 years, the exhibition brings together paintings and resin wall reliefs that explore light as fluid, shifting, and inseparable from water. Through layered, aqueous processes, Evans’ work captures perception in motion.
Ned Evans (b. 1950) is a painter and lifelong surfer based in Venice. He received his BFA and MFA from the University of California, Irvine in the 1970s, where he studied during a formative moment alongside artists such as Billy Al Bengston, Robert Irwin, Ed Moses, Larry Bell, and Craig Kauffman.
Aligned with the ethos of the Finish Fetish and Light and Space movements, Evans merges the materials and sensibilities of coastal life with those of the studio, contributing to an aesthetic now considered distinctly Californian. His paintings, drawings, and resin sculptures have been exhibited at institutions including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Laguna Art Museum, Frederick R. Weisman Art Museum, and the Bakersfield Museum of Art.
