I recently spent an enjoyable evening (two and half hours!) talking books and photos over virtual gin and tonic with the prolific photography podcaster and collector Brad Feuerhelm @ordinarylight for his @nearesttruth series. We spoke about the insights into vernacular visual culture that come through looking at a LOT of photographs (I did my PhD about an archive of 55,000 photos but Brad had a phase of looking at 70,000 photos a day!). We shared the visual and magical sensibilities that come from being lapsed Catholics. The chat went from histories of nudism and crisps via Totnes and Lily Dale to Kibbo Kift and KLF. Along the way we shared our admiration for @kim.beil @donlonbooks @sourcephotographicreview @chris__packet @sportsbanger @seance_book @projectbphotos among others. Brad’s series has over 500 interviews with image makers, collectors and interpreters. Dive in for a week’s free listening of the latest conversations via the links in Brad’s bios.

The podcasts will be up for a week, then they will enter the archive. There's a sale on annual subscriptions: 76 euros instead of 96 if you wanna save a buck... Thank you to Eoin Moylan, Lucille Brizard, Josh Olley, Qiu Yangzi, Arthur Tress, Jakob Ganslmeier, Ana Zibelnik, Ria Verhaeghe, Annabella Pollen, Hans Gremmen, David O'Mara, and Mimi Mollica! New Tranche of Podcasts is up and available to listen to. They are up for a week-ish (usually longer) before they move behind the archive wall. Episode 490 is subscriber-only. Episode 486: I spoke with Marilena from @palmtreeworkshops about our forthcoming 2026 combination workshop in Santorini, Greece, with @goldbergjim , @alessandra_sanguinetti , and @rongsiyu . There is just over a month and a half left before our early-bird seats come to a close. The Exchange will be an excellent meet-up. Ep. 487: @jhengstromwork and I return to speak about his new book Dimma Brume Mist, published by Void. It was an interesting talk about the book, archives, painting, and a few other aspects of life. Ep. 488: The one-and-only @janet_delaney joins me to speak about her work and her new book, Too Many Products Too Much Pressure, published by our friends at @deadbeatclub . Janet is a national treasure! Ep. 489: One of my favorite artists working in collage, @julien_langendorff , and I speak about his life and work with an emphasis on where his psychedelic-induced collages emanate from—excellent work from a fantastic artist. Ep. 490 This is subscriber-only. I talk a bit about the photobooks I liked this year, but also about some problems associated with broader trends in photobooks this year that I did not feel were very strong. It's a bit bitchy in places, but that is deserved. Ep. 491: My dear colleague @lisadonnesonphoto has just published her new book Irreversible Order, published by @artpapereditions . Lisa and I worked on the book during our NT Year-long photobook program, and I am super excited to see it published. I have some more pods to release, some more to edit, but I should hit 500 pretty soon.

We're super excited to be bringing @lua_ribeira Lua Ribeira to Athens this January. The acclaimed Magnum photographer will be gracing us with her workshop, Collective Experience. The workshop is proposed as a collective experience—combining the strength of working within a group with the development of each participant's individual voice. Together, starting from initial prompts proposed by Lua, we will select a concept to serve as our starting point and source of inspiration for creating images within a specific territory. For mor einfo, check out the Nearest Truth home Page

Some new pods up on Nearest Truth Episode 475: @marer.marcella and I speak about her contribution to the incredible exhibition and book Brazilian Modernist Photography (1939–1964), published by @atelier_exb with an exhibition at @rencontresarles this summer. Episode 476: @andrepenteado and I return to discuss the second batch of his work and expand his biography as it relates to his more political, social, and historical works. Our last episode featured his early, profoundly personal projects around death and mourning. Episode 477: @rodrigovalenzuela_studio and Zora J Murff @gangster_bighouse and I discuss the relative state of photography, a series of podcasts that I am considering expanding to speak with artists, publishers, and others about how they see the state of photography in 2025. I am not overly enthusiastic about its institutions. We discuss some of these issues. All podcasts are available on the site in front of the wall for one week, then they are added to the archive. #nearesttruth #nearesttruthpodcast #photographypodcast #photobookpodcast
