Walking the quiet halls of Vancouver General Hospital at 2 in the morning I came upon this former paper-cast sculpture of mine. It is a life size depiction of my sister and brother in laws, their cultures and their soon to be blended family. The process involved making plaster casts of their bodies, then using that as a mould to layer the dyed paper inside. This requires to work in reverse, with the foreground papers added first. The design is revealed once it is taken out of the plaster mould. This piece was part of the 1995 Tribes series, exhibited at the then Vancouver Craft Museum. @vghfdn #handmadepaper #papercasting #paper #sculpture #artcollection

Thank you to all who came by during our Slow Fashion in Action event on Granville Island. It was great to have real conversation with people about sustainable fashion. From a little girl who learned that people make her clothes, to grandmothers who worked in garment factories as new immigrants, to a woman writing a thesis about consumerism and how language shapes our habits. Special thank you to those who made this all possible @fash_revcan @dreamstilll @lasallevancouver @everywaredesigns @granville_island

You are invited to come by on Earth Day April 22 to view my latest installation on Granville Island. Lets turn our attention to the emerging Slow Fashion Movement and also remember the people who perished in the Rana Plaza garment factory disaster of 2013 in Bangladesh. In addition, Saturday the 25 is a day to come together and share new skills with free workshops and a panel discussion from 12- 4 pm. In collaboration with @dreamstilll + @granville_island @fash_revcan #humanrights #garmentworkers #ranaplaza #slowfashion #earthday2026

The Red Bio-Jacket on the Slow Fashion runway last night. The jacket is handwoven with Alginate bio-threads and worn by @katyatorinart . Alginate is derived from algae and the colours are inspired by the many red seaweeds found on the west coast of BC. The jacket design references the iconic cropped Chanel jacket, and is presented as a sustainable version and alternative to fast fashion. The jacket and skirt also incorporates textured gelatin-based biomaterials over a repurposed skirt. Thank you to Germaine Koh and her team for organizing this great event. The jacket will be exhibited at the @hatch_artgallery until March 16 to 27. Gongrats to all the innovative designs presented at this event. #biomaterials @slowfashionseason @germkoh
