I was blown away by the creativity in the room at
@recyclingcouncilab at Explore Circularity Day 2026: Textiles in Alberta’s Circular Economy where I facilitated a denim upcycling workshop this week. I was nervous about teaching 120 souls to do something that I have only done in smaller groups, however everyone stepped up to the challenge of transforming discarded jeans (thank you
@goodwill_ab ) into one of a kind coasters. Watching people who had never touched a sewing machine in their lives become upcycling designers in the space of a couple of hours was incredibly moving. The challenges that we face in achieving textile circularity are daunting, but it’s this type of creativity, community and willingness to experiment while embracing a whole body, whole mind approach that will get us where we need to go.
