āthe things we keptā I wish I could call this just a installation but itās quite literally a physical representation of my childhood, love, beauty + grief. Iāve always had a special relationship with nostalgia and just the feelings that it brings.
filled in this vanity are the memories of the souls Iāve gotten the chance to experience and some momentos of things that they held close while they were here. when the casket closes these pieces are the things we have to remember our ancestors. alongside my memories are a few special souls and their memories + the Carina Memory chains made specifically for their loved ones.
May we celebrate their impact, love, memory and their souls that still guide us on this earthly realm.

grief & ancestor veneration go hand in hand. through these pieces of jewelry more specifically these Carina chains I make. I feel like Iām helping people have a token of protection and earthside connection.
as I evolve I am coming to understand that grief follows us until we leave. But what we do with the memories set the tone of how life flows.
Creating this install āThe Things We Keptā has been healing but also made me realize that growing up I watched the women in my life build themselves up and prepare for the world while sitting in front of the mirror to get ready to go into the world. Those same women prayed there, did their beauty work and then some.
In the quiet moments of grief I remember these intimate moments and through this process I share them with you.
