grief & ancestor veneration go hand in hand. through these pieces of jewelry more specifically these Carina chains I make. I feel like I’m helping people have a token of protection and earthside connection.
as I evolve I am coming to understand that grief follows us until we leave. But what we do with the memories set the tone of how life flows.
Creating this install “The Things We Kept” has been healing but also made me realize that growing up I watched the women in my life build themselves up and prepare for the world while sitting in front of the mirror to get ready to go into the world. Those same women prayed there, did their beauty work and then some.
In the quiet moments of grief I remember these intimate moments and through this process I share them with you.
