Excited to have contributed to @_neonlichter ‘s @days_of_steam series with my mix ‘Blue World Below. “Multi-channel operator and fellow transatlantic psychonaut The Hefker Girl (Talia Rudofsky) has a singularly unified “practice” (if we have to put a label on it), pulling from Pythagoras, 1980s fringe cults, uncharted waters, warped and dusty platines to create something distinctly off-kilter. She operates in several different milieux; I first encountered her assisting with Groovetrackers on WKCR (see DOS015: Prezzo) as their media maven of sorts, but is equally at home on the design / booking / graphics / archiving / curation fronts in the back ends of bookshops and cash-only bars that seem to uphold what is left of the East Village’s nous against the beige tide that swarms and chokes. Blue World Below (named without awareness of the FIsh Bowl world she has created for herself) dives deep into untracklisted realms, fathoms of telepathic fish and echoes of chillout rooms and future visions from the end of history. Describes herself as a sailor at sea, armed with a dub compass to guide her through the uncharted depths of dance music and inviting the crowd into the haze, the suspension”. The fourth downbeatdetection party arrives with the long release of an 808 bass drum kick and the crack of the backbeat snare on the 2 and 4. Very pleased to present to the fine people of New York City yet another 9 hours of programming on Tuesday, April 28 at the legendary Bossa Nova Civic Club. DBD 04 gathers friends and close collaborators for a night of club sounds calibrated to make hairs stand on end. Honored to showcase the taste and skills of @perrnaa of the ever iconic @ladiezdrinkfree and current head of programming at LES institution Pianos. Tireless, creative and charismatic DIY organizer and underground scene polymath @itsaliese of @eto.ano will most definitely bring the heat. Expect sounds that pivot seamlessly between electro, minimal, techno and bass-forward selects, foregrounding material that exemplifies the pioneering and foundational sounds of techno and house music. Sweet and spicy support from one half of the beloved @lifesavers_nyc brain trust, perhaps the most good hearted foodie in the game, electro techno bad boy @combooverrice , with second helpings served up by DBD criminal-conspirator in chief, dub freak, and vinyl addict Spiral Eddie. From 7-10 pm, Happy Hour sounds are in the incredibly capable hands of archivist, multidisciplinary artist, @groovetrackersfm collaborator and selector general @navigatingthefartworld , with CD slinger @alexrialdi organizer of rising LES party series @mind.cargo . Well, it’s Amateur Night again in New York City, when our streets run Kelly Green with inexperienced revelers, ordering Boilermakers and pestering the DJ to play that f***ing Dropkick Murphys song. Tracker alum @jscott27 is our guest at Pianos this month! Though we like to think we set a high bar for record fanaticism, here at Groove Trackers we occasionally encounter a DJ who surpasses even our standard, a true vinyl lunatic. And so it is with Very J. Sure, he’s a veteran of institutions like Turntable Lab (RIP) and A1 Records. Sure, he now runs Duty Free, the mobile shop currently posted up at Hifi purveyor Silence Please. And sure, he’s a fixture at too many elite NYC clubs to list. But did you know this dude listens to Free? And there you have it. A selector of this caliber at a one of downtown’s most venerable dives? You better f***ing believe it’s all right now.
