The last time I drew the African penguin was in my sketch book in Simonstown, having just spent my 30th birthday watching penguins at Boulders beach! It reminded me of the days I spent watching puffins in Scotland, how easy it is for time to go by whilst watching these charming little birds. And three years later im revisiting the African penguin, Spheniscus demersus. 🐧 Shortly after a huge step forwards in conserving this species by establishing no fishing zones around breeding colonies 🐟🌎 This original artwork will be part of my Easter Sunday collection 🥚 . . . . #africanpenguin #capepenguin #bouldersbeach #simonstown #scientificillustrator #scientificillustration #naturalhistoryillustration #wildlifeart #wildlifeartist #inkart #inkartist

Today on the 100th birthday of the incomparable David Attenborough, the man who has brought natural history to life for so many of us, let us remind ourselves that we can take action now to protect species from extinction. We are in the midst of a sixth mass extinction event. Immediate action is needed to support biodiversity and prevent further extinctions. Nature's SAFE is playing a critical part in this effort, and you can help us. Please joining us in wishing David Attenborough a very happy birthday, thanking him for all he has done, and pushing forward to see this vision of a better world come to life. To support our mission to save animals from extinction, access our custom species posters and receive your guide on how to help wildlife today, please check out our digital adoptions at the link in our bio. All proceeds go towards our work to cryopreserve wildlife in collaboration with our conservation partners. Illustrations by @rachelbrooksart created for Nature's SAFE

We recently visited the University of Southampton to help them cryopreserve sea urchin sperm. But why did they seek out our support to do this in the first place? At the University of Southampton, sea urchins are used as a model species to study processes of animal development, making healthy, breeding urchin populations essential for their research. To help address a pinch point in their captive breeding process, Nature’s SAFE was called in. Watch to learn more 👀 Read the full story of our visit at the link in our bio.

More than 2.5 billion seeds from wild plants, representing over 40,000 different species. The Millennium Seed Bank (MSB) has been leading global ex-situ plant preservation for 30 years, using freezing and cryostorage to protect plant species for the future. In our early days, we often said that we aimed to become "the Millennium Seed Bank for animal life". We didn't know then that one day we would be here discussing the synergy and alignment between our two organisations. Last week, our team visited the MSB to take a look insight the vault and share knowledge about our opportunities and challenges to work towards our shared goal of biodiversity preservation. It was incredible to open up this dialogue, and to see the infrastructure and passion behind the MSB. Thank you to the MSB for hosting us - we look forward to seeing you again soon. @kewgardens @wakehurst_kew

Today on Reverse the Red Day we are highlighting two conservation stories from our partner institutions. While we’re proud of our partners every single day, this annual spotlight offers a special opportunity to showcase the impactful, hands‑on actions happening across our Conservation Network to protect biodiversity. This year, we’re shining the light on two very inspiring initiatives both at home and afar - the Fenn Bell Conservation Project (@fbcukproject ) helping monitor bumblebee species in Medway through their monthly BeeWalks, and Bristol Zoological Society (@bristolzooproject ) working alongside local communities on reforestation efforts to protect the Tanzanian turquoise dwarf gecko. Last week, we had the pleasure of attending the Great British Wildlife Restoration Awards hosted by BIAZA at parliament in Westminster. We are so honoured to have been nominated for this award for our project on butterfly egg cryopreservation to protect the British Swallowtail, in collaboration with ARU Writtle and Jimmy's Farm & Wildlife Park 🦋 We would like to extend an enormous congratulations to Wildwood Kent who were voted this year's winner by parliamentarians for their work restoring water voles across Britain! It was such a pleasure to see all of the innovative projects which were nominated this year. Together, we are making great strides in preserving British wildlife. Thank you BIAZA for including us in this special event!
