🌎 If we had to describe @nativemaps in a word, it would be “thoughtful”. David puts care and consideration into every choice in his business — the city maps he screen prints, the eco-friendly inks and papers he uses, the handmade frames he sources locally, the national parks non-profits he partners with, the list goes on and on. As the brand has grown from David’s small attic studio in 2014, it’s shifted to be less about perfectly replicated hometown city streets — it’s more about the messy and memorable journeys we take, and the memories and experiences we bring with us when we’ve returned home. David brought us on to retool the brand to reflect where it stands now over a decade later, and to give it the same care and attention he gives each of his products. We created a suite of marks, illustrations, textures, icons and colors that feel equally at home in your living room or in a National Parks gift shop, and a flexible system of logos, colors, and typefaces that will continue to grow with Native Maps in the future. It’s always a joy to work on a brand project with a longtime collaborator, and that’s especially true when they have the clear vision and rock solid values to guide the process like David does. We’re excited to see what the next decade of Native Maps brings!

Doing my best after layoffs💅🏽 1 month to the day of being laid off and let me tell you, it's been a roller coaster. But when something is out of your hands (and you've now gone through all of the stages of grief), you try and look at the bright side. So I'm choosing to do things that will fuel my health and creativity and we'll just see what happens next!🎀 🪞I'm currently working on building the viral @ikeausa vanity so that may come across your feed tomorrow. 🔗: Nails + top linked in ShopMy and shown below Nails: @glamnetic Top: @americaneagle #DIYnails #Nails #PressOns #Glamnetic #LaidOff

2016. That was the year Mayor Rogero officially proclaimed Knoxville an ‘Etsy Maker City’, the first such award by Etsy to a city in the US, and then announced the formation of Knoxville’s first-ever Mayor’s Maker Council. The Knoxville Maker City Summit on September 19, 2016 brought together makers, artists, developers, manufacturers, city officials, and entrepreneurs for a day of dialogue about how to create a stronger maker community. Alongside @etsy , makers from throughout the region took part in a series of interactive panel discussions about maker spaces, growing a business and creative manufacturing. It was a full day of discussion about public policy and the local maker movement, attended by nearly 400 people, featuring talks from Mayor Madeline Rogero, representatives from Etsy and the Kauffman Foundation, as well as panel discussions, breakaway and feedback sessions, food trucks and a "Meet Your Maker" cocktail party. We are celebrating Ten Years of The Maker City next week at @abletradeknox to kick-start The Maker City Summit 2026 weekend. Everyone is invited *no ticket required* to come out to cheers to 10 incredible years of The Maker City! #TheMakerCity #TheMakerCitySummit #KnoxRocks #Etsy

One of my favorite parts of Fourth & Gill is how creativity shows up in everyday places — like the neighborhood mini art gallery. Spaces like this remind me that art doesn’t need a ticket or a gate. It lives on sidewalks, in shared spaces, and between neighbors. Supporting the neighborhood’s digital home felt like another way to help those moments stay visible, connected, and accessible. So you have heard of @themakercity , but how did we start? The Maker City was created after a small team from Knoxville attended the first @etsy Maker Cities Summit in Brooklyn in May 2016. The Maker City represented a perfect launching pad for our growing efforts to support and connect makers. The original founding team was comprised of a local maker, retailer, and city official. Nanci Solomon from @shoprala , Joy O'Shell from the Knoxville Entrepreneur Center @knox_ec , and David Harman from @nativemaps ! The call-to-action was simple: to join 14 other teams from across the country, learn from each other, and walk away with an actionable plan to make our city more supportive of micro businesses. Born out of a growing partnership with Etsy, the global online marketplace, our Maker Council has developed a year-long series of programs, workshops and networking events designed to build an informed and collaborative City, one that fully embraces the maker movement. After hosting an inaugural Maker Summit attended by nearly 400, and having been designated the first Etsy Maker City in the United States, the Maker Council is looking to build on each year’s successes, cementing our region’s status as THE place to make in Tennessee. #TheMakerCity #KnoxvilleSmallBusiness #Etsy #Knoxville

A lot of small businesses took a hit from the economic chaos this year - new collections on hold, restocks in limbo, and unexpected fees and costs piling on top of each other. Big box stores have had an easier time taking it all in stride, but many small artists and brands have had a rough go of it. We’re not doing a BFCM sale (frankly we’re really not feeling the Black Friday spirit this year) but we wanted to take some time to shout out all the brick and mortar stores, perfectly curated gift shops, and small brands we personally love to do our holiday shopping at. We know we say this a lot, but if you love that small independent makers and shops are out there making and curating beautiful products, and you want to KEEP seeing them around, you should support them even if they can’t do a sale this year. Shop small, make Jeff Bezos shed a tear, and long live small biz!! ❤️💙💛 love and kisses the PU crew (we could only tag 20 of you but just know you’re all tagged in our hearts)
