This one was truly a dream come true; and to dream alongside friends that wanted this so badly for joy, fun, representation, authenticity, identity, community and everything in between—it meant the world. Every chance we get to tell our story is a win, and we win each time our stories are told by our community. I’m grateful to help bring this story into the world. Being born to Filipino immigrants here in LA, you better believe I hooped every chance I had with my fam. I wish I had this film when I was younger. Maybe I would’ve tried to dunk. But at the very least, maybe I would’ve stood a little bit taller in rooms where I was one of one; and maybe I would’ve spoke up sooner or believed in my voice at an earlier age. It wasn’t lost on me that when I arrived in NYC to record this music last year, it was against a backdrop of increased hate crimes against my community. During our sessions, I had Asian-American orchestral players tell me how much this meant to them. Well, this one is for you. And this effort is for us. All love to our fearless director @shawbr0ther for having the courage to birth this story. And thank you for the months of collab and late night conversations about growing up an Asian American kid in this society. Love you brother—go get your flowers. And all love to my musical partner in crime @angelaasistio who was critical in developing the score and laying down an epic set of songs for the film. Team Turon!! One of my favorite projects in 2024 was to photograph legendary artist, Eliseo Art Silva (@elesi_72 ), and his team as they began restoring his mural, ‘Gintong Kasaysayan, Gintong Pamana’ in Historic Filipinotown. It is the largest Filipino-American mural in the country. Eliseo’s work has been a huge inspiration to me—I have many of his paintings on my studio’s walls—and his mural has been a source of constant inspiration. It was an honor to spend time with him over a few weeks in October and to share conversations about his process, inspirations and visions. Huge thanks to him and his super talented team as they allowed me into their creative space to document their work on film. #filmphotography 📸

Chef’s Table is now streaming! Had a lovely time composing the music for Nok Suntaranon’s episode @kuhnnok . She’s an absolute legend, trailblazer and inspiration. Thanks to @brimcgi , @zkow and @thedchen for inviting me on. You all are the best collaborators. It was really lovely to learn the Thai Phin (most of the plucked stringed sounds in the episode are from this beautiful instrument). And I got to use some Filipino instruments as well for a Pan-Asian musical approach. Big thanks to @judy.was.here for the additional music and all your hard work. And thanks for the incredible musicians that brought it all to life: @mmartassofia and @rorowan for the strings, @devontaylormusic for the incredible brass and @ginalucianiflute for the beautiful flute solos. Nurse Unseen is out now in select theaters! Huge thank you to @michelejosue and @carlovelayo for inviting me to write music for this deeply important and personal story. They graciously included my mother’s photo in our film and I’m so blessed that my music and her spirit will forever be tied in this story. She was a hard working Filipina nurse whose work might have been unseen, but it was certainly felt. In telling this story, I was able to draw some inspiration and sounds from indigenous Filipino instruments. These instruments are truly magical, and I’m blessed to have some of them sprinkled throughout the score. Thank you to master indigenous artists @1969waway , @balugto and @dashofaridgee for these wonderful instruments 🙏. Uni at Ugat (sounds and roots). Grateful to @houseofgongs for inviting me to this camp to share how indigenous Filipino music has shaped my music and my life. It is a journey I began about a decade ago as a path to understand more about my culture and my lineage; and to understand the root of my family’s departure from our home soil. Thank you to the indigenous artists for being a lighthouse for those of us in the diaspora.
