🇮🇸 A Reykjavík stat we love: 👏 29 restaurants there have officially joined Off The Table.
That’s a win for Iceland’s precious marine ecosystems that wild Atlantic salmon and their friends, the iconic puffins, depend on.
Sea cage salmon farms threaten the coastal waters, pristine fjords, and natural beauty that puffins (and all of us) hold dear. So, Iceland’s puffins are taking a stand and backing restaurants that are, too.

🍽 And find an Off The Table restaurant near you at OffTheTable.org
🐧 “Real weird. Listen closely, little fish…In a land far far away, there are these things called sea cages.”
🐟 “Sea…what now?”
🐧 “They’re like salmon factory farms. Big floating cages along Iceland’s fjords. And because these factory farms sit directly in the ocean, they leak industrial waste,
chemicals, and parasites right into the surrounding waters.”
🐟 “I’m going to pretend I didn’t hear that.”
🐧 “Not trying to scare you, but sea cages are placed along salmon migration paths, so young wild salmon swim out into the ocean for the first time, ready to migrate, but instead become victims of sea lice and disease coming from sea cages. Yep, it isn’t pretty and they often can’t survive the sea lice…”
🐟 “Cool cool cool. So I’m never sleeping again.”
🐧 “I didn’t mean to kill the conversation with these cold hard truths. I just want you to spread the word, little fish. Now swim away and tell your fishy friends they can
learn more at StayCoolIceland.com.”

Wild Atlantic salmon are irreplaceable. When they migrate from river to ocean and back again, they move vital nutrients and minerals between the two. 🌊 Being a keystone species, many other species of animals and plants depend on them to survive. Their lifecycle directly supports three of Earth’s major ecosystems: freshwater (rivers and streams), marine (the ocean), and terrestrial ecosystems. 🌳 Wild Atlantic salmon are also endangered, and sea cage salmon farms are a leading cause of their 70% decline since the 1970s. 🌎
On this Earth Day, and every day, take ocean-farmed salmon Off The Table.
In 2024, Icelandic communities and NGOs called on their government to ban open net salmon farms through one of the country’s biggest ever petitions. Patagonia Films’ Laxaþjóð | A Salmon Nation told their story, and showed people united in the protection of the wild places and animals that helped forge their identity.
Today, new draft legislation is putting Iceland’s wilderness at risk once more. Use your voice and help protect Iceland’s wild nature via the link in bio.
Spring cleaning isn’t just for closets. 🧹🌸 This season, take a second look at what’s on your plate and consider leaving ocean-farmed salmon off it. 🌊✨ Sign the pledge. Link in bio. 🔗
