‘One Last Deal’
When I first heard about One Last Deal, I was told it would be a ten-day shoot. I assumed it was a one-shot project. Of course, it wasn’t. It turned out to be a feature—set in a single location, unfolding over a single day, and featuring just one actor.
Right away, I doubted it could be done in ten days. I’d just wrapped a twenty-day feature and sworn I’d never shoot another one in fewer than twenty-five. That promise didn’t last long.
Working with director Brendan Muldowney was an absolute pleasure. We managed to pull off something that by all rights shouldn’t have been possible and had a lot of fun doing it.
And the key to making it work was without a doubt Danny Dyer. He was an absolute pro—arrived on set fully prepared, knew his ten to fifteen pages of dialogue every day, and delivered with precision. We often wrapped his shots early, which gave us precious time to capture those rich, juicy close-ups that really sing in the edit.
Thanks to my crew for pulling an absolute blinder.
