We had a great time celebrating at this year’s AAPI Night Market!
The energy at the market was electric and we had an absolute blast at the Showcase Stage as the community came together for a night of food and culture. One standout of the evening was the Chef Showdown where Chef Billy Ngo and Chef Craig Takehara went head-to-head in a high energy culinary battle.
Our CEO & General Manager Paul Lau was right in the middle of the action helping judge the competition alongside Rancho Cordova Mayor Garrett Gatewood and Chef Patrick Mulvaney. It was great to see these local chefs bring their best to the stage using the all-electric induction cooktops!

We had the best time at this year’s Solar Regatta!
The sun brought the heat and local students brought the energy for an incredible weekend at Rancho Seco. High school and college teams from all over the region put their skills to the test by launching custom boats that turned sunshine into pure momentum.
These student crews really delivered on the water by racing their designs with total precision and showing off some serious engineering.
A huge congratulations to all the competing teams for putting in the work and a big thank you to our staff for making this high energy weekend happen. Special thanks to SMUD Board President Dave Tamayo for attending and supporting the event.

That’s a wrap on Watt’s Cooking 2026! 🥘⚡
Today, local high schoolers in grades 9 through 12 turned up the heat at @choosecrc for our inaugural Induction Cooking Competition. Using farm-to-fork ingredients and clean energy, these talented students proved the future of cooking is electric and the competition was even powered by electric trucks!

To celebrate, we headed out to Bartholomew Sports Park in Elk Grove this morning to plant over 40 trees. Trees are a vital part of our community because they clean our air, cool our neighborhoods and make our world a better place to live.

The solar car races are back and the excitement is building! Local students are once again putting their solar-powered creations to the test bringing creativity, teamwork and serious innovation to the track.
Today, middle school teams are leading the charge showing off impressive designs and big ideas in action. Even with a little rain moving through, teams kept things rolling using a combination of solar and battery power. Later this week, high school teams will hit the track ready to take things to the next level.
