Thank you @dutartsanddesign and @dut_official1 for this amazing honour. I see that the cat has been let out of the bag. I am so humbled by all of the people who have been posting this milestone of mine and congratulating me. My journey has been a long one, one that has been filled with many challenges and achievements. This one is even sweeter because I have received it from my home town. I accept this not only on my behalf but also on behalf of many of my peers who have passed on before having the opportunity to be celebrated. I started my career in the early 70's and I had no idea that even after 5 decades I would still be standing strong and still doing what I love. Again, I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to everyone who has been and still are a part of my journey. #godisgood #letscelebrateeachother #actorslife #graduate #legend #MaNdlovu #imbewu

Last night I was reminded the importance of storytelling and the responsibility of carrying the story with honesty, sensitivity and care. I braved through the bad weather to go to the Baxter Theatre, for the premiere of Rise ‘76 the story of June 16th. The events of the Soweto uprising have been spoken about in many different political platforms, books, documentaries, films, musicals, etc. The story carries such an emotional and historical weight. But when the creative team handles it with honesty, care, sensitivity and gentleness, it becomes more than just a performance; it becomes an act of remembrance. Theatre has a unique ability to make audiences feel the humanity behind those moments - the fear, courage, anger, hope, and sacrifice. The writer/director @tiisetsomashifane wa Noni with her small super talented cast, that transformed to different characters, and an outstanding creative team managed to carefully transport us through the emotional journey. I shared a little moment of tears of appreciation with some of the cast members and went home to cry again. Please don’t miss this important offering at the Baxter Theatre until 30th of May before it is transferred to the Market Theatre in Jobg from 5th June ‼️

This was 2017, we were special guests for Women’s day at Diepkloof Community Hall in Soweto. Thando Cynthia, My Queen, my hometown sister. It’s been hard to accept your passing. Born in the same year, we called each other twins, we were. I was at the YMCA in Durban when you were crowned Miss Durban. And due to racial segregation in our country then, you were not permitted to enter the main Miss South Africa competition and instead, the parallel “Miss Africa South” title that had been created qualified you to compete for Miss World 1972 in London. It was a significant moment for all of us black girls in our South African history. Your beauty, grace, and courage under restrictive apartheid laws was a big triumph for all of us. After that we watched you representing us, gracing our television screens for many years. Rest in power my Queen. Uyibekile induku ebandla Dumakude. Peace and comfort to your loved ones 👏🏾👏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾❤️❤️
