A little summer recap: I don't usually post about my hobby. But this year photography and motorcycling collided (ugh), literally. On May 18th, I lowsided in the mud during a track day at Thunderbolt raceway, fracturing and displacing my collarbone (image 2). With the help of incredibly supportive family, friends, and colleagues, I spent the next three days installing my exhibition at the Montauk Historical Society's Second House Museum (image 1) with one arm, lol. I went in for surgery that Friday morning at HSS and went back out to Montauk to open the show on Saturday (image 3). We then proceeded to have a ton of fun with book signings and talks with @terrencearjoon at @192books , @powerhousearena , @thehedgeseasthampton , (image 4) and parties hosted by @cultured_mag (image 5). Credit to my incredible wife @katiewardphoto for those photos. Six weeks to the day after my surgery I got back out on the track (image 6 & 7), getting bumped up to expert group for the end of the season. And to top it all off, two incredibly generous conversations were just published in @danspapers and @frames_magazine . Huge thank you to @oliversees and @w.scottolsen ! Links to both are on my website: nat-ward.com. Again, I couldn't have done it without my family, my friends, and my coaches at @theridersclub_njmp . Feeling big gratitude. And as always, be a cockroach, the ultimate survivor, and don't let the bastards get you down.

There’s something about a beach that suspends reality: Strangers become neighbors, politics shrink beneath umbrellas, and the only performance required is presence. That’s what photographer Nat Ward (@mrnatward ) explores in “Ditch: Montauk, NY 11954.” His latest book offers a loving tribute to Montauk’s Ditch Plains Beach, where he spent four summers documenting the peculiar gravity of the locale with his medium format panoramic camera. At the link in bio, read CULTURED’s conversation with Ward about the genesis of the book, the politics of shared space, and the characters who make Ditch Plains a crucible of American contradictions.
