The Dick’s Sporting Goods “rotational pop-up store,” Walter Hagen, will open Thursday at 34 Park Place in East Hampton. So, what’s a rotational pop-up store? Basically, each month, between now and Oct. 18, when it will close, a different Dick’s in-house brand will be featured. Until June 28, the focus will be on golf. July and August will feature women’s apparel, through the store’s CALIA brand, and then from Aug. 27 the store will shift to the back-to-school season. Full story at link in bio. 📸 @godfreypix

We got the May flowers, but it was not thanks to April showers this time. Long Island’s East End has officially dipped into drought status — which would normally happen in late summer — according to the most recent U.S. Drought Monitor map. And yes, it rained this week, but we’ll need more rain, more consistently, to break it. Full story at link in bio. 📸 @godfreypix

Bonac was well represented at the @pennrelays in Philadelphia last weekend. East Hampton’s 4-by-400-meter relay team — Jasper Samuelson, Emmett Schumann, Hudson Goulart, and Liam Knight — ran their best time of the season. And then, to top it off, got to see 2019 East Hampton grad Ryan Fowkes finish third in the Olympic Development Men’s Mile Run Elite with a 3:59.81. Fowkes first broke the four-minute mile in August 2025. Full story at link in bio 📸 @srkn1ght82 @carissakatz

Seasonal bans on gas-powered leaf blowers differ from one municipality to another, and there’s a growing call for gas blowers to be phased out completely in favor of electric ones. The North Haven Village Board voted to double the fine paid for infractions at its April 21 meeting to $500, payable by the homeowner on whose property the leaf blowers are used, not the landscaper doing the work. In 2022, North Haven was one of the first municipalities on the East End to institute a seasonal leaf blower ban, and it’s still the one in effect for the longest period each year: from May 1 to Nov. 1. In the Town and Village of East Hampton, the gas-powered blower ban runs from May 20 through Sept. 20. In the Village of Sag Harbor, there is no seasonal ban. Full story at link in bio. 📸 @godfreypix

The long road to a new pharmacy in Montauk, following the October 2024 closure of White’s Drug and Department Store, paid off last year when @montaukchemists opened on the hamlet’s Main Street. Now, the pharmacist Frank Calvo’s efforts, and patience, have been recognized by New York State. Mr. Calvo, who for 13 years was the pharmacist at White’s, learned this month that the State Small Business Development Center has named Montauk Chemists its 2026 Rural Small Business of the Year. At @easthamptonhighschool 's annual Science Research Symposium last week, 25 seniors shared their findings from three years of scientific research under the guidance of mentors in their chosen field, while sophomores and juniors offered a glimpse of their inquiries so far. “To say I was proud of these 87 students and the symposium that they put on for our community would only scratch the surface,” said Stephanie Forsberg. She and Paul Rabito are the science research teachers who oversee the three-year program, along with Renee McGuire, the department coordinator. “I felt that they communicated their research and passion for this program at a professional level, and to me, that is one of the greatest skills that will follow them in any career path,” Dr. Forsberg said. An Indian peafowl of unknown origin has been roaming a neighborhood in Clearwater Beach in Springs since at least December, but despite plenty of attention on neighborhood apps and Facebook, no one has claimed the bird. Somehow the visitor, better adapted to warmer climates, being a native to the Indian subcontinent, survived an especially cold and snowy winter. “We were peacock unaware until we found it in our own yard Easter weekend,” said Lori Wells, who lives part time on Underwood Drive. Her husband, Jeff, noted the bird’s “very regal” looks and a nickname was born. The family now calls the bird Lord Underwood. Full story at link in bio. 📸 Jeff Wells

It’s unclear who will win the June 23 Democratic primary for East Hampton Town supervisor, but one thing about the 2026 supervisor race became clear last week: As in 2025, there will be no Republican candidate on the November ballot. The deadline to name a candidate has passed, meaning that the primary race between the incumbent, Kathee Burke-Gonzalez, and her challenger, East Hampton Village Mayor Jerry Larsen, will in all likelihood determine the next town supervisor.
