BRUSSELS ROOTS NIGHT #8
Mr Jo is a Brussels-based harmonica player who has been active since 1999. Emerging from the city’s vibrant soundsystem scene in the early 2000s, he developed a unique musical identity by blending blues influences with reggae, dub, breaks, drum & bass, and dubstep.
Over the years, he has collaborated with collectives such as FWF and Nyabinghi Sound, while also co-founding the independent label Plynt Records. As a founding member of the reggae band Jupiter & Ma Shi Faï, he toured extensively across Europe and Africa, performing at major festivals like Couleur Café and releasing a self-produced album in 2011.
On the international stage, Mr Jo has built a strong connection with BunZer0, appearing on his radio show from the beginning and performing at renowned events such as Reconstrvct in Brooklyn, New York. His ability to merge live harmonica with bass-driven electronic music has made him a distinctive and versatile collaborator.
Recent projects include a 2025 release with Datra, the acoustic blues duo Jo&Reg, and collaborations with Togolese artist Rojah Lao. With numerous releases and studio sessions to his name, Mr Jo continues to bridge genres and push the boundaries of global bass music.

I had the pleasure of collaborating on the opening track, “Algo Especial,” alongside Espe and Masot , where I added harmonica lines to shape its atmosphere.
This 4-track EP offers an intimate look into her emotional world. Her sound blends experimental electronics with vocals and textures reminiscent of 90s elegance, creating an experience that is both mystical and sensual.
