“We’re Rival Sons from Long Beach, California, and we play rock and roll music,” announced Jay Buchanan before the band launched into their closing set of the Underground Garage Cruise. And as promised, the band delivered — blues-soaked rock and roll in the middle of the ocean, the best possible way to end a weekend like this.

Last night, Rival Sons took command of the main stage aboard the Underground Garage cruise, delivering a blues-drenched set built on tension and control. The band moved as one, tight and deliberate, until Scott Holiday ran into a wall of technical issues mid-set.
Instead of letting the energy slip, Jay Buchanan — one of the most commanding voices in rock — stepped forward and held the room. He also let the crowd know: new Rival Sons material is already in progress, with the band preparing to head back into the studio soon ⚡️
By the time the issues cleared, the set hadn’t lost its footing. If anything, it sharpened — the band picked right back up and drove it home like the interruption never happened. In an era where most stages run on pre-recorded safety nets, a technical glitch is almost proof of life.

He showed us how to do it ..all the way to the end. A real searcher.
We had the great opportunity to host him backstage at one of our shows at the Filmore some years back…and he was just fantastic. Kind. Patient. A real soulful dude. A good one. What an incredible wealth of albums, live performances and creativity he’s left us with! RIP Bob Weir…thank you for your beautiful contribution! ❤️🙏
