Some behind the scenes for comping Best Damn Street Corner. @motiongnome developed the distinct stylistic differences between the two types of scenes in the film. Memory and Interview. All I knew is that the camera should move differently, and she ran with the rest!
My favorite comping bit is that in the Memory scenes, there is a distortion map over the shots that adds a sort of underwater/dreamy moving blur. Even though itâs pretty subtle, the effect really reinforces the idea that Mikeyâs recollections are hazy and maybe not 100% accurate.
This month marks Foreign Faunaâs 7 year anniversary! Going hand in hand with getting older is taking time to reflect. Whatâs important to us? Why do we create the things we create? How relevant are we 7 years in? Some people call it an existential crisis, we call it rebranding!
Seriously though, self reflection is tough! The worst part is when you get to some Aha! moment just to realize itâs only a revelation to you while everyone else kinda shrugs and goes oh yeah I thought you knew that about yourself already. Like our new slogan âFrame by Frame Filmsâ. Having that pop into our heads felt like a lightbulb turning on, but in reality that bulb has been on the whole time. In fact, we were blinded by staring straight into it for so long.
When youâre young, you explore. You reject labels in the fear that accepting one means that youâre settling. That youâve stopped growing. Well, these middle aged animators are here to tell you that weâre letting our frame by frame flag fly and we ainât done yet!
Weâre not old. Weâre just getting started!

Iâve been busy and very very MIA on Social Media đ¤ˇââď¸. But for good reason. Finally made it to week 17 on growing a tiny human with @ocularinvasion đĽł, managed to complete my D&I certificate in the midst of morning sickness đ, accomplished some pretty wild shit that Iâve never done before at work đ , annnnd Iâll be attending a memorial service slash much need vacation with my siblings in Austin that has been postponed since 2020 - All before June âď¸đđł

Hope yâall had a lovely week. I know I did. This weekend is likely to be filled with hours of phone time with my sisters since Iâve done a terrible job of connecting with them all this last week. Time to come out of the turkey coma.
