This old photograph of mum completely in her element. She loved tech long before it became part of everyday life. When computers arrived in our home, she picked up with an instinct that left the rest of us scrambling to keep up.
My dad, on the other hand, was the steady photographer of the family. Always documenting, rarely documented. There are hardly any pictures of him with a camera, even though so many of our memories exist because of his lens.

At Chabot Space & Science Center, the telescope operator fine-tuned the scope while the massive dome slowly groaned into position, keeping pace with Earth’s rotation like it was no big deal.
These were large objects but had many straight lines. So I stayed with the 35mm.
And there it was… Jupiter. In the middle of the day.
Science, served with a side of mechanical drama.

Three humans squeezed into the tiny Soyuz 7K-OK descent module hurtled through space in a fiery blaze. No legroom, no Wi-Fi, no bathroom breaks. Just raw faith in physics and their engineering colleagues. I was standing at Chabot feeling claustrophobic just staring at this little capsule thinking how they must have felt... so they just climbed in, strapped up, and plunged into a planet? Space and this crazy human endeavor to challenge themselves at the face of it, blows my mind..

Spent the day filming telescopes and stargazers during Space Week at @chabotspace & Science Center. And somewhere in the midst of all that cosmic hardware, had a close encounter with astronaut Jeff Wisoff.
Yes, the kind who’s been to space and floated around! I wished there was a photographer around to take our picture proper. So a selfie it was.
I asked him if, after decades of human space flight, things were any easier during re-entry. He said the space shuttles were way more comfortable than the tiny capsule that hurtles in madly and splashes down. Oh well..
It was a lovely morning watching kids talk and do space stuff.
In the next few weeks, I hope to pitch to telescope companies and take photos of their incredible machines. I get sentimental like a fool dreaming about Galileo looking through them in awe. Have to do something about it.
