Every anatomical dissection is just that: a dissection. Which means stuff has to get cut away. So it's up to the person who did the dissection to decide what's worth cutting away, and what's important. Therefore, to paraphrase @drandreospina , "Gross anatomy is an artist's rendering of what THEY consider important" Art. A perception and interpretation of reality. But not reality. Any anatomical model that doesn't take biotensegrity into consideration, isn't really accurate as to how the body really works. It would be like designing a building assuming that gravity works the opposite direction. Any treatment plan or treatment approach that doesn't take biotensegrity into consideration is doing you a HUGE disservice. The science of Biotensegrity and Bioflow is about as fundamental to the architecture of living systems as you can get. And any system that doesn't take it into consideration is doing you a huge disservice. — The human body and movement mechanics can ONLY be understood through the biotensegrity lens. ⠀ This involves an interplay of CONTINUOUS structures under tension (muscles, fascia, etc.), and DISCONTINUOUS structures under compression (the ones). But at no point in a normal scenario are the bones transmitting compressive forces TO EACH OTHER. ⠀ The cartilage between bones plays by the same rules. Compressive load does not transmit from vertebra to disc to vertebra. Or femur to meniscus to tibia Or pelvis is to hip labrum to femur. ⠀ Lets actually learn some anatomy and stop scaring people away from doing the things they love. As a profession, we HAVE to start doing better. And if you REALLY want to cause a ruckus, next time a physical therapist or chiropractor or personal trainer or orthopedic surgeon says _________ activity is causing ________ wear and tear on the joints, ask them to justify that claim through and understanding of tensegrity. ⠀ Then get ready to make some enemies.

EVERY joint is a tensegrity structure Nonstop Knowledge - Day 4 of 90 (2020 throwback) ——————————— Sexy Feet - Part (number of cuneiforms in the human body) (If you were wondering, there are 🦶🏿🦶🏾🦶🏽🦶🏼🦶🏻🦶). ⠀ There are 26-30 bones in each foot (depending on if you like to count the tibia, fibula, or sesamoid bones) ⠀ There are dozens of joints between these bones. ⠀ And hundreds of muscles link it all together. ⠀ If you’ve been following me for a while, you HAD to know that I’d make this about tensegrity. ⠀ Because it’s ALWAYS about tensegrity. ⠀ The human arch is a dynamic and LIVING structure, stabilized through active and passive connective tissue tension. ⠀ When something else does the work for these muscles (like a soft and cushioned shoe), the muscles get weak and shitty. ⠀ When the arch is artificially stabilized so it can NEVER move, the muscles get weak and shitty. ⠀ Don’t be the person with weak and shitty foot muscles. Make them shits work nice. ⠀ #FRC #Kinstretch #Yoga #running #tensegrity

Nonstop Knowledge - Day 3 of 90. (2018 throwback) OSTEOPOROSIS THROUGH THE TENSEGRITY LENS 🧐 ⠀ Yes, the right building blocks matter. Nutrition matters. Supplementation matters. ⠀ But not as much as specific force. The ONLY thing that tells the cells that build bone to regenerate properly is mechanical force. ⠀ And that force comes from the DIRECTIONAL contraction of muscle tissue. ⠀ Some types of exercise are better at this than others. Fun fact, swimmers and cyclists have notoriously lower bone mineral densities than other athletes. ⠀⠀ I’m not saying to stop doing what you love, just make sure it’s supplemented with enough resistance (weight bearing) exercise to maximize the odds of good bone health. ⠀ #kinstretch #FRC #tensegrity #strength #osteoporosis #osteopenia #swimming #cycling

“Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth” ⠀ Some updates: ⠀ 1. Yes, I’ve been away from social media for a while. Without getting into too many details, when my window of tolerance decreases, the non-essentials (like posting regularly) are the first to go. ⠀ 2. Back-to-back hurricanes was crazy, and everyone I know who was impacted is still in emotional PTSD about it. We all just got metaphorically punched in the mouth. ⠀ 3. Our clinic got WRECKED by the storm, so I’m currently professionally “homeless”. If you’ve got an extra treatment room that isn’t at full capacity, shoot me a DM. ⠀ 4. I’ll be taking on online clients/consults in the short term. [Link in bio] ⠀ 5. Rock-Bottom “fundraiser” pricing for all my courses - $20 for my CARs or breathing course, $50 for my Spine Course [Links in Bio] ⠀ 6. Extra time in the schedule to make Tensegrity models [Links in bio] ⠀ 7. Badass Olympic lifting and powerlifting equipment needs a short term home. DM me if you’ve got room. ⠀ 8. Going full Influencer mode - if you wanna buy me a coffee, or contribute to the spoiled grass-fed beef replacement fund, there’s a link to my Venmo in my bio. ⠀ ⠀ 9. If there’s anyone in your network that might be interested in chatting with me 1-on-1, courses taught by people with actual experience, or tensegrity models, please SHARE this post. ⠀ 10. Most importantly, to everyone who reached out and checked in on me amidst this insanity, thank you. It sincerely means the world to me. 🙏🏿 ⠀

EPISODE 11 of SHOCK AND YALL is actual 🔥not a smoke alarm. See what I did there. Today’s episode is w my friend @mosesbernard and he is the absolute master of making analogies for the greater good. I love the way he thoughtfully makes complex topics digestible so that his patients, and all who have the privilege of working w him, can learn at their own speed and for their personal need. We discuss low back pain, breathing, C sections, scar tissue, THE SPINE and so much more. Fellow anatomy nerds pack a lunch bc we going in… #shockandyall #podcast #lowbackpain #painmanagement #csectionrecovery #chiro

New Year Updates! ⠀ 1: 9️⃣0️⃣ days of content was an epic fail. Bit off more than I could chew. And that’s ok. Adaptability is 🔑 ⠀ 2: 4️⃣ slots are still left in the Tensegrity Pelvis giveaway. If you bought a spine model but didn’t leave a review yet, you’re still in the running! ⠀ 3: 2️⃣ places to experience Kinstretch IRL this weekend. ⠀ Saturday January 6th -10:00am @kodawaristudios -1:00p @klynergy massage and wellness (**Bonus 90 minute edition**) ⠀ I’ve never really been one for New Years Resolutions, but I’ve always been about continued refining of goals and objectives. This one just happens to be in early January. ⠀ #tensegrity #tampa #southtampa #florida #FRC #kinstretch #doanything #makeshitworknice #strength #flexibility #chiropractor #massage #physicaltherapy #training #injury #stress #recovery #crossfit #running #powerlifting #deadlift #bodybuilding #pilates #yoga #poledance

📈 🐱 🐮 (Level up your Cat/Cow) Nonstop Knowledge Day 9 of 90 ⠀ Cat/Cow doesn’t always have to happen bottom to top. ⠀ Cat/Cow can include ALL your vertebrae. ⠀ Cat/Cow doesn’t only have to exist from midline. ⠀ Mix it up. ⠀ **thanks @fittywithschmiddy for reminding me this would make a good post. ⠀ #tensegrity #tampa #southtampa #florida #FRC #kinstretch #doanything #makeshitworknice #strength #flexibility #chiropractor #massage #physicaltherapy #training #injury #stress #recovery #crossfit #running #powerlifting #deadlift #bodybuilding #pilates #yoga #poledance

Compression 🙅🏿‍♂️ Stretching. Non-Stop Knowledge Day 8 of 90 ⠀ Sometimes the easy and (but not always obvious) first step to improving things, is just to stop making things worse. ⠀ When I teach my Kinstretch class (every Saturday 10a at @kodawaristudios ), I try to help people learn that while there is no one perfect way to move, there might be a way that is harmful. ⠀ It’s not so much about finding the good as much as it is about avoiding the bad. And closing angle compression on what should be a passive stretch is usually a sign to explore some new options. ⠀ #tensegrity #tampa #southtampa #florida #FRC #kinstretch #doanything #makeshitworknice #strength #flexibility #chiropractor #massage #physicaltherapy #training #injury #stress #recovery #crossfit #running #powerlifting #deadlift #bodybuilding #pilates #yoga #poledance

Non-stop* Knowledge Day 7 of 90 When I promised 90 days of consecutive content, I knew it would be a stretch for me. So knowing 90 was the goal, even if I only post 2/3 of the time, that’s still pretty good (for me). So accept that my *Non-stop education may have some breaks when life gets in the way. When that happens, I like to think of the most basic concepts from meditation: ⠀ Just begin again. ⠀ At my Kinstretch class last Saturday, we structured the entire class around this concept. People raged when I told them about this concept with back bends. ⠀ Here’s a throwback from 2018 on closing angle joint stuff. _____________ 🙊IS YOUR STRETCH REALLY A STRETCH?🙈 ⠀ As a society, most of us (statistically) are inactive. The few of us who ARE active, tend to do the same types of activities over and over. ⠀ This has left many of us disconnected from our bodies. ⠀ We don’t know what things SHOULD feel like. ⠀ Well I have a four word cheat sheet for you, courtesy of @functionalrangeconditioning seminars: ⠀ Closing. ⠀ Angle. ⠀ Joint. ⠀ Pain (or pinching). ⠀ Healthy range of motion should ALWAYS (*call me out if you can think of an example otherwise*) be restricted by the soft tissues on the opening side. NOT by a bony block. ⠀ If your “stretch” is being felt on the closing side, you aren’t really stretching anything. And you might be compromising the integrity of the joint. ⠀ Even if you have the best chiropractor/physical therapist/massage therapist/personal trainer/massage therapist/acupuncturist/strength coach on the planet, they aren’t with you 24/7. ⠀ ⠀ Knowing what things SHOULD feel like in your body is way more valuable than ANY treatment you’ll ever receive. ⠀ If you’re diabetic, you probably check your blood sugar everyday. If you’re a human with joints, you should probably check their health every day too. ⠀ And if you have no idea what I’m talking about, comment below, and I’ll put you in touch with someone who can help you re-discover healthy joint function.

Nonstop Knowledge Day 6 of 90 ⠀ 🦴 Osteoporosis case study ⠀ A couple days ago, I reposted a video I made a few years ago about viewing osteoporosis through a tensegrity lens. ⠀ Interestingly enough, I had a patient today where that was her chief complaint. ⠀ So in today’s post, I’ll walk you through my thought process of how I came up with my recommendations for this patient. 1. Explain progressive overload, and discuss why total avoidance of activity makes things worse. ⠀ 2. Discussed how there’s a minimum force needed to drive adaptation, and she probably wasn’t hitting it in her yoga class. ⠀ 3. Discuss bone mineral density on a sliding scale, and how to strategically provide progressive overload. ⠀ 4. Made resistance training recommendations based on equipment she already had. The best results come from the exercises you’ll actually do. ⠀ 5. Made SUPER generic nutritional recommendations to add more calories. ⠀ The patient came in feeling overwhelmed by the amount of contradictory information that was online, and discouraged that she might have to stop doing what she loved. ⠀ She left feeling empowered, and with a game plan. ⠀ Just teaching the basics can go a long way. ⠀ #tensegrity #tampa #southtampa #florida #FRC #kinstretch #doanything #makeshitworknice #strength #flexibility #chiropractor #massage #physicaltherapy #training #injury #stress #recovery #crossfit #running #powerlifting #deadlift #bodybuilding #pilates #yoga #poledance

ALL models are wrong. 🙅🏿‍♂️ Nonstop Knowledge project Day 2 of 90 “ALL models are wrong. But some models are useful” -George EP Box, Statistician ⠀ In the movement and healthcare world, we have a lot of models for how things work. ⠀ Mental models about biomechanics. ⠀ Physical models around anatomy. ⠀ They’re all approximations. And thus, theyre all wrong. But SOME are useful in getting a point across. ⠀ The problem is when models are both wrong, AND not useful. Traditional spine models fall into this category. ⠀ When you dissect away all the connective tissues and design frameworks based on what’s left, you’ve literally cut away all the important stuff. ⠀ Tensegrity models are wrong too. But they are FAR more useful than traditional ‘bone-on-bone’ models. ⠀ Tensegrity models have been a staple of my teaching for almost a decade. But in my opinion, the offerings on the market weren’t great. ⠀ So I made my own. You can find them on Amazon using the link in my bio. Help me defeat the algorithm. #tensegrity #tampa #southtampa #florida #FRC #kinstretch #doanything #makeshitworknice #strength #flexibility #chiropractor #massage #physicaltherapy #training #injury #stress #recovery #crossfit #running #powerlifting #deadlift #bodybuilding #pilates #yoga #poledance

I pick things up and put them down. Nonstop Knowledge - Day 1 of 90 - Low Volume Strength Training. ⠀ I’ve been talking about mobility training and movement quality for many years now. But some people don’t believe it correlates to strength in conventional lifts. ⠀ I’m here to show you otherwise. ⠀ And the best part is how much I’ve been able to improve over the year with such limited training. ⠀ Like ONE day a week (or less) of lower body strength training. ⠀ Is it the BEST way to build strength? Probably not. ⠀ Is it good enough? For anyone that isn’t a professional athlete, most certainly. ⠀ Healthy joints + strategic training = results that work for probably 99% of people. ⠀ Leave a message in the comments about what you want to hear me talk about next. ⠀ And come back tomorrow for a HUGE announcement… ⠀ #tampa #southtampa #stpete #florida #FRC #kinstretch #doanything #makeshitworknice #strength #flexibility #chiropractor #massage #physicaltherapy #training #injury #rehab #prehab #workout #stress #recovery #fitness #controlyourself #crossfit #running #powerlifting #deadlift #bodybuilding #pilates #yoga #poledance #fitness
