To say that the first Family Meal was everything I’d dreamed of wouldn’t even say it all entirely. Exactly one year after a momentous life change, I once again find myself in the city I love, my home filled with people I love, conversing spiritedly at a long table. All the while, I’m running around, putting my hands in the food and yelling instructions and menu descriptions from the head of the table. Family Meal might be the truest version of me yet, constructed with parts and pieces from my past, cobbled together to make a new-old thing. Thank you so much to those who came and ate. And to my very talented friend @caseycurry who captured these delightful moments.

My favorite Japanese sweet potatoes are grown in California by @millikenfamilyfarm . I could eat them every day. They make a perfect breakfast with eggs and chili crunch. And I love them for dinner with yogurt and chermoula, served alongside @porkandflowers collar steaks- a culinary match made in heaven.
Green goddess is one of those versatile sauces that can wear many hats. Toss it in a salad, use it as a dip, dallop it on a plate under some fish. It’s so flavorful on its own, using it feels like cheating because no matter which avenue you choose, the finished product will be delicious. And likely beautiful too. I am ALWAYS hungry for caesar salad, but especially this time of year. There is something about its crunchy, tangy, salty perfection that provides the perfect buffer between the sweet things of the Thanksgiving table and the rich dishes of Christmas.
