MODU exhibited at the Île-de-France Architecture and Landscape Biennale in Versailles, France. In the exhibition “4 Degrees Between You and Me,” architects highlighted the importance of learning from southern climates as cities in temperate regions continue to heat up. Our contribution connected our climate-adaptable design of Promenade in Houston with our research on micro-climates along New York City’s sidewalks. Many thanks to curators @philipperahmarchitectes and @sanafrini for including us in this necessary conversation and congratulations on the biennial!
We are honored that #minitowerone has been nominated as the building of the year by @archdaily . It exemplifies the importance of connecting to our #urbannature by spending more time in the thresholds between indoors and outdoors. Thank you to the MODU team, collaborators, and consultants! Between indoors and outdoors
An all-weather room provides visitors with experiences of thermal diversity. This room, open to the outdoors during the winter, includes hot and cold plunge pools. During inclement weather, the adaptable room is closed to the exterior and open to the interior, with a sauna and a fireplace for gathering. The pools, sauna, and radiant heating use geothermal energy. #habitsandhabitats #sustainableliving #environmentaldesign #wyoming #nyarchitect #sustainable #architecture
#habits and #habitats A raised walkway connects the deck to the terrace, weaving through tree groves with a reading area surrounded by foliage. Habits and Habitats is both an immersive nature experience and a restorative retreat. #wyoming #architecture #sustainableliving
#minitowerone is an #addition to the rear of a #Brooklyn #multi-family residential building. Designed to take advantage of rear yard #microclimates, the building is comprised of vertically organized indoor/outdoor living spaces. The project has led to planning research by @moduarchitecture to increase density of existing #middle-housing in our cities. #environmentaldesign #sustainable #weatherroom #indooroutdoorliving #missingmiddlehousing

#minitowerone is an #addition to the rear of a #Brooklyn #multi-family residential building. It follows #passivehouse principles: super-insulated facades and an energy recovery ventilator reduce energy use and provide fresh air. However, during temperate seasons large openings foster indoor-outdoor living. During these seasons, passive cooling occurs from cross-ventilation on all floor levels. Residents of Mini Tower One benefit from reduced energy costs and healthy environments from outdoor air year-round #microclimate #environmentaldesign #sustainable #weatherroom #indooroutdoorliving
