The release of “...with time” by motée marks a deeply personal and long-awaited tribute to the memory of a former creative partner and best friend, Aric. The heart and soul of this record comes from David Soiseth, who held onto and developed this material as a way to honor his late friend. The music, stashed away for years, is now brought back to life—an emotional journey that transcends time, both in the creative process and the healing it brings.
Personally, this album resonates with me (Rusty) on a profound level. I remember when I was exploring North Dakota with my band, Dispensing of False Halos, back in the day. There was something special about the kids we met—so many of us got lost in emotional music, and those shared experiences created bonds that lasted for years, even decades, weaving through different bands over time. During the isolating days of Covid, David and I began working on this project, sharing long, cold, lonely winter nights together over the phone and internet. At the time, his main focus was Victor Shores, and though I encouraged him to pursue this new venture, it wasn’t until recently that he fully embraced the idea. Over the past year, I’ve had the privilege of mentoring, recording, and now helping bring this vision into physical form.
David has assembled a full lineup for motée, and their first live appearance will take place in Minneapolis in 2025. What strikes me the most about this album is how it perfectly captures the essence of late ’90s and early 2000s screamo. If you’re a fan of bands like Funeral Diner, Welcome The Plague Year, Early Grace, and Cowboys Become Folk Heroes, this album will undoubtedly be a must-have addition to your collection.
The physical release is handled by Disacknowledge Records, the DIY label project from Matt and Rusty of Oriska, who have been instrumental in curating and supporting bands within their network.
