Last week when @djflipflop brought over some @pioneerdjusa speakers to the shop for the wall of 1000 speakers I was once again reminded of how much faster and cleaner at scratching he is.This guy has a gift and I thoroughly enjoy every moment he expresses it.Thanks for the speakers homie! The wall is growing. Any old speakers you have let me know! The saga continues.ps-we did not plan to both wear our @beatjunkieios shirts. We just wear them because the fabric is so damn soft.
Tonight the plan was to listen to the new speakers in the wall. I hit the shop wearing my Bering Sea pj’s. Then, @gavin_camera showed up and we decided to listen to a wide scope of genres. During the sonic adventure I discovered a sample in Cowboy Junkies “Sweet Jane” that sounded great over a dnb track. Before we knew it we were creating this post. This is what hanging out at @mindsoil feels like. Free.
My sons and I have traveled all over LA looking for quality.Best donuts, best Korean shaved ice and many other things. I’m here today to report that Prince Street has been dethroned as our favorite pizza. @madefromskratchpizza takes it on flavor combined with experience. Growing up my life was filled with images of Hollywood.The skate mags, tv, movies…it’s deep in my subconscious.The camera has taken me all over the world, but there aren’t many feelings like walking around Hollywood with a 14mm taking stills.The architecture, the history behind every facade, the cars, the fashion.I’m truly glad it’s not for everyone because traffic is bad enough getting there as it is. Thanks to @averagelifeof_chris for getting me out of the house and letting me do my thing on your project.Anyone not watching his daily frames needs to check him out.I love LA and the people I’ve met in my 23 years living here.
Today Red announced the Komodo price drop to under 3k. The 6k Epic Dragon package you see in front of my 2014 toes cost 43k by the time it was kitted out. I post this to say it’s a great time in camera tech to become a storyteller. In 2014 I looked at the Red as a membership card. The question everyone asked was…”what do you shoot on”? I wanted to charge more than 1k/day and couldn’t do that with a 5d mk3. I invested in my dragon and charged 1500-2500 a day.These days I still prefer Red’s post workflow and color science, yet the price to play is more than 40k lower.I never became a storyteller for the money.My lifestyle and location pushed me into finding ways to charge more doing a thing that I truly love.The tv industry supported by unions and commercials is no longer the machine it once was and I cannot imagine a world that it ever will be again.Learn to edit, buy a camera, learn to light and tell stories. Keep your overhead low and you won’t work a day in your life.I pray more union work returns, but I’m a storyteller first. Nothing can stop that beyond my choices and attitude.Thank you to Red for how you advanced my career. Thank you to Nikon for having the best greens in digital technology.
