Y’ALL. I took yesterday to just be happy about this news. Around this time last year we shot The Inheritance & now it is ONE OF FIFTY films selected from all around the world to premier at the TORONTO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL @tiff_net in September. Not to mention the honor of being in the same festival where people I grew up watching like @officialspikelee@halleberry@idriselba@iamreginaking are also premiering films.
Especially grateful for our director and creative force @ephraimasili , our crew members who kept us sane @sanciashiba , @stellaabinz , and my beautiful cast mates @noziphomclean@chillrell@auri__k@iamericlockley@trumpetsoundz@nyabellual ❤️❤️

Those close to me know how many loved ones I consecutively lost last year. My Uncle Lennox/ my dad’s bestie 4 lyfeeee and the sweetest man I knew (I said what I said) passed a month before these photos were taken in Trinidad at a big family wedding. His absence was felt every step of the way as he normally spoiled/chauffeured us around the island starting from the airport to the nearest doubles stand. A strange and particularly rough trip was only made easier by having big sis @caignerlovesyou , by my side

People understandably connect through trauma as it’s usually branded the “defining moments” in our lives upon recollection. Arguably, the decisions made post-trauma can be as equally impactful as the initial incident. Personally, I struggled with moving forward in any capacity. BUT, in retrospect, a lot of beauty stemmed from so much loss as it’s a sobering experience

1)Turns out I’m even stronger than I ever thought!! 2)Death puts EVERYTHING into perspective. Choose wisely what you give energy to.

3)Minimal dwelling, more genuine acceptance of people/circumstances. More celebration of life as is. What happened has happened. .
4)Priorities shift. Think about what actually moves you/don’t leave room for things that don’t fulfill you.
.
5) Urgency grows. You don’t owe anyone your time/ presence. You are responsible for you. Go after the quality of life you want. Don’t settle
.
6)PLATONIC LOVE HITS DIFFERENT and is essential. S/O to chosen family. Didn’t think It was possible to love some ppl in my life more than I did but hey!

7)Laughter. It’s a release and we all need to let go a bit! I promise, it’s not that deep
.
8)Gratitude. Gratitude. Gratitude, especially for the little things. (Probs the hardest one to maintain, but TRY, it goes a long way) .
