@miguelbraceli is an interdisciplinary artist working at the intersection of art, architecture, and social practices. His artistic practice centers on participatory projects in public spaces, exploring both geopolitical and local conflicts through large-scale works across Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, and the United States.  As a 2026 Monument Lab Fellow, Braceli will collaborate with elementary school students in New York City on a series of site-specific installations and public art exhibition that harness the solidarity observed in natural ecosystems as a framework for cultivating interconnectedness among the diverse communities.  Learn more about our 2026 cohort at the link in bio.

Tulsa Art Fellowship and The Hulett Collection present "Futuro Imperfecto", recent works by Miguel Braceli (@miguelbraceli ) exploring political polarization and communal resistance through performances, installations, video, photography, and sculpture. From Área (2014), in which seventy participants transform a contested plaza into collective unity in Caracas, Venezuela; to Geopolitical Games (2020), a satirical take on partisan spectacle in Washington, DC. Braceli reframes national symbols and everyday spaces to reveal the forces shaping our imperfect future and to resist them. "Braceli gives tangible form to the intangible forces of authoritarianism and oppression that would seek to divide rather than unite. His is a fundamentally political art, not in the limited partisan sense that characterizes twenty-first-century geopolitics, but in its most humane and democratic iteration." — Sean Nesselrode Moncada (@snessel ) Tulsa Artist Fellowship Studios Gallery Friday, March 6 6:00–9:00 PM "Area". Collective Joy as Resistance ✨Thank you to everyone who joined us this Saturday 2/21 as Horizontal Chalkboard transformed into a salsa class at @MoMAPS1 . Your movement, presence, and shared rhythm activated the space in the most powerful way. Together, we turned dance into an act of political affirmation—claiming space through connection, sweat, laughter, and community. Deeply grateful for each of you who showed up and moved with us, and Talisa and Carlos for the great Salsa Class 💃🏽🕺🏽✨

How to translate @laescuela.art into a museum object? A Horizontal Chalkboard: a platform for gathering, dialogue, and interventions; to collect and confront multiple approaches to learning. For the last four months this platform has been activated by artists, educators, and organizations—workshops, performances, and installations enliven a surface that reflects on the chalkboard laid horizontally as common ground. Seven plastic Monobloc chairs—furniture rooted in vernacular architecture across Latin America and the Caribbean—support a collection of notebooks with reflections by artists and scholars on LA ESCUELA___ Emeritus: radically innovative Latin American artists and educators who shaped the platform’s public learning ethos. Infinite thanks to everyone who has contributed to multiply networks of resistance and care. This Saturday 2/21, 7:30–8:30 PM, Horizontal Chalkboard becomes a salsa class at @MoMAPS1 , followed by a closing celebration at @SantaSalsa . Join us to create a space of resistance—dance and collective joy as acts of political affirmation. RSVP required, via the link in @laescuela.art bio. Horizontal Chalkboard. Presenting Disparador at @ZieherSmith Gallery—an installation emerging from a collective performance that seeks to subvert forms of violence by transforming a violent device into a playful, knowledge-based structure. The body becomes the weapon; the book, its content and potential. Porches, Playgrounds & Other Schools: A Conversation between Miguel Braceli (@miguelbraceli ) and Stefan Gruber. after school is a long-term research project developed by Theodossis Issaias (@theo_issaias ) , Curator of Architecture at the Carnegie Museum of Art (@carnegiemuseumofart ) ; Alyssa Velázquez (@velazquezalyssa ), Assistant Curator; and McKenzie Stupica, Curatorial Fellow, exploring the spatial, political, and social infrastructures of public education in the United States. Built over several years through archival research, fieldwork, and collaborations with educators, artists, architects, and community partners, the project culminated in a major exhibition and an expansive book. The conversation between Miguel Braceli and Stefan Gruber, published in the after school book, forms part of this wider inquiry into how learning environments are built, dismantled, and reimagined across generations. Together, the exhibition and publication create a civic framework for understanding education as an architectural, collective, and deeply situated practice. 📖 To read this full article, visit the Conversation section in our Library! 📎 www.laescuela.art/en/campus/library/conversations #LaESCUELA___ #LIBRARY #CONVERSATIONS #afterschool 📸 after school, edited by Theodossis Issaias and Alyssa Velazquez. The artist notebooks at @laescuela.art in Homeroom @MomaPs1 have been one of the wonders of this exhibition for me. As part of the “Horizontal Chalkboard” project, I invited artists and scholars to translate LA ESCUELA’s texts into notebooks filled with reflections on the artists whose works have shaped LA ESCUELA’s approach to art and learning. I am thrilled by the generosity of these artists in transforming our digital archive into physical objects that connect their own work with the emeritus artists of LaE___, creating genealogical bridges and expanding the conversation on art and education. These artist notebooks invite the audience to explore Latin American key figures through their own sensibilities and the possibilities of artistic research. @fragmentario_ on Celeida Tostes @ernestoriverastudio on Silvano Lora @cassandramayelallen on Gego @jmibarra on Lina Bobardi @esperanzamayobre on Sonia Sanoja @egamanww on Ivan Illich @elviraeloisa on Marta Traba @_oscarmcaballero_ on Augusto Boal @feliperivassanmartin on Claudio Perna @gabo_camnitzer on Felipe Ehrenberg @flotography on Ana Victoria Jiménez @canto_villano on Roberto Varcárcel @kevinquilesbonilla on David Alfaro Siqueiros @nunahueso on Juana Belén Gutiérrez @bernadettedespujols on Carlos Raul Villanueva @rodr197 on Antonio Caro @mariap.vila on Gabriela Mistral @alarcon_tennen on Maria Teresa Hincapie @patricia.encarnacion.c on Frantz Fanon @juanjosecielo1 on Francisco Toledo @hernanpaganini on Margarita Paksa @jjfiqui on Antonieta Sosa mptinajero on Beatriz Nascimento @agustin_diez_fischer on Lea Lublin Thank you so much to all the colleagues.
