Hello 👽👋
I’m creating a 𝓕𝓻𝓮𝓮, open source book to help artists navigate the O-1B(artist) visa process 〰️and I need your help to collect real stories and data.
You don’t have to be an international artist to help and simply sharing this post could reach/connect it to the people who need it most.
For nearly a decade, I was an O-1B visa artist aka an “alien with extraordinary abilities.” I went through approvals and rejections, and each time brought isolation, doubt, and an overwhelming amount of uncertainty. Although I no longer need the visa myself, I know how difficult it is these days for any foreign body to go through this journey.
I am imagining this book to be an artist-to-artist roadmap built from:
💬 Real stories from those who have been through it that cannot be Googled
❓ Questions we once had (and maybe forgot) or have
💵 Sticky topics like money and hiring a lawyer
If you are an O-1B artist of ᴘᴀꜱᴛ, ᴘʀᴇꜱᴇɴᴛ, ᴏʀ ꜰᴜᴛᴜʀᴇ please take a few minutes to fill out my survey (🔗 link in bio & via @o1aliens ) and share this as it might make another artist’s path far less lonely and uncertain.
If you have friends, students or people in your community struggling through the process, I’m also open to listening and supporting in any way I can! If you would have any questions, feel free to DM me 💖

Hello,
I am working on new sculpture series and in search of …
Hands that hold experiences - of work, care, injury, recovery, repetition, or change.
Hands that have built, repaired, carried.
Hands that have endured or started over.
Hands that bring joy or comfort — through cooking, making, or touch.
Hands that have supported, cared for, or healed others (in any way).
Hands marked by lineage and time.
Hands that remember what words do not.
If you have something to share in how personal and collective histories live in the body, especially through the hands and if this resonates with you, I would be honored to listen to whatever you’re open to sharing.
📩 DM me if you’re interested or just curious to learn more.
🤲🏾 Feel free to share this with someone who might want to take part.
Happy that it gets to be shared with public as part of #GETTY PST ART: Art & Science Collide.
During the peak of COVID, @amberstucke invited me to the *Talking to Plants* project while we were both grieving. I remember listening to both pieces synchronized for the first time and can't forget the incredible dialogue they created together. It was a piece born from silence, yet it had so much to say. Thank you Amber and congrats 🎉
