🙏Thank you to the 27 volunteers who came along to our outgoing chair's charity litter pick last month, starting at Navigation Way in Stowmarket
The group, supported by the Pickerel Project, collected 34 bags of litter (155 kilos), along with two road signs, hubcaps and a shovel - all of which were disposed of by our public realm operatives
Over £1,600 was raised for the Stowmarket Relief Trust 💷
Outgoing chair, Keith Scarff, said: "While an unusual chair event - I wanted to do something that was fun and helped the environment. It has been an honour and a privilege to serve as the council's chair and I have met some real community heroes".

🚐 Shaping future careers 🚜
We are proud to have supplied funding to @westsuffolkcollege to help with the purchase of a simulator van, offering young people the chance to get hands-on experiences of a variety of different job roles.
Students who use the van will be able to learn about the construction industry, virtually drive an excavator, bulldozer or tipper truck, and also find out about the journey of an atom via a VR headset.

Our crews have been working hard to deliver new wheelie bins and food waste caddies to homes for the new Recycling and Waste Service which starts in June. They’re almost done but there’s just a few places left to go. So, don’t worry if you haven’t received yours yet – they’re on their way. However, if you haven’t got your bin and caddy by the 26th May, please contact your local authority directly (contact info' in comments). 🚯 Last week we worked with highways contractor, Triplex, again to clear over 100 bags of rubbish from junctions 47 (Woolpit Interchange/Elmswell), 49 (Tot Hill/Stowmarket), 50 (Cedars Interchange/Stowmarket) on the A14 🚯
Their crew of litter pickers worked overnight, while most people will have been asleep, to tidy up these areas, using planned @nationalhways road closures each night to avoid additional costs of lane closures and to keep disruption to a minimum
Rubbish collected included various pieces of metal, plastic, wood, road frames, blown out tyres and cones, alongside a variety of other discarded litter 🗑️
We’re continuing to work closely with partners including @nationalhways and @suffolkcountycouncilofficial@suffolkhighways to coordinate further safe litter picking along the A14 and making the most of road closure opportunities where possible
We are grateful to volunteers who have been taking pride in their community and picking litter, but continue to urge people to only do this where it is safe and not on fast roads
It’s dangerous work, and every cleanup requires careful planning and often lane closures to protect those carrying out the work
