๐ A snapshot of our April highlights - from reactive and cyclical works to infrastructure upgrades and planned schemes.
๐ Huge thanks to our teams and supply chain partners for helping deliver safer, greener highways across #Suffolk.
โ๏ธ As we wrap up the winter gritting season, weโd like to say a huge thank you to our hardworking gritting teams who have helped keep Suffolk moving safely throughout the colder months.
This winter, our teams completed:
๐ฃ๏ธ 46 Priority 1 gritting runs
๐ 9 Priority 2 gritting runs
๐ง In those runs the crews spread 8,779 tonnes of salt on Suffolk's roads
๐ฅถ The coldest recorded road surface temperature this season was -8ยฐC in Barnardiston on 6 January
๐ Between 29 December - 7 Jan, the crews did 22 consecutive runs (including multiple runs per day). This was also the start of 17 consecutive days of treatment.
Thank you to everyone who supported our crews this winter and helped keep journeys safe across the county. #Suffolk
โ๏ธ Today marks the end of the winter maintenance season, we want to say a huge thank you to all our operatives, supervisors, and decision-makers.
๐ Through long days, cold nights, and challenging conditions, your hard work and dedication have kept our roads safe and our communities moving.
Your commitment throughout the season makes a real difference. Thank you for everything you do. #Suffolk

Our essential drainage improvement works at the B1078 are continuing to progress well and during the last week crews have been on site installing two further chambers and connecting pipework into these.
๐ท Three new gullies have been excavated, with associated frames and kerbing installed. Additionally, some of our previous excavations have been backfilled in preparation to mount the manhole covers next week.
Our thanks to the local community for their continued patience during these works.

When roadworks are underway, youโll often see traffic management operatives, supervisors, and multiple workers present. This is not unnecessary โ itโs essential for safety.
๐ท Traffic must be controlled by several trained individuals to ensure the safety of both road users and our workforce. Setting up safe traffic management can take time. In many cases, diversion routes must be put in place and checked, sometimes stretching for miles, before any work can begin safely.
You may also see workers waiting because:
โช๏ธTraffic management teams are still setting up or adjusting safe working areas
โช๏ธMaterials or specialist equipment are being delivered to site
โช๏ธWork is being coordinated to avoid putting anyone at risk
This waiting is a safety requirement, not inactivity.
Sadly, reports of road worker injuries has increased in recent years. Our paramount priority is ensuring that every member of our team returns home safe and unharmed at the end of the day.

Our essential drainage improvement works at the B1078 are continuing to progress well and during our second week on site, we have excavated and installed drainage pipework along multiple sections of the road, as well as a new concrete bag work headwall to anchor the pipework into the ground.
๐ Next week, we will carry on with installation of the drainage pipework further along the road following a confirmed route for this being finalised after our trial holes last week.
Our thanks to the local community for their continued patience during these works. #Suffolk
