Japan through our lens 🇯🇵🫶 The cars, the people, the culture, and the chance to experience life in a way completely different from what we’ve known. Last year, we were lucky enough to spend a month there across two trips, and it still feels unreal. Cars we grew up watching in videos were suddenly right in front of us. 2 years with the GT350 today. It’s hard to believe I’ve had this car this long already. Sometimes it feels like I just got it yesterday and sometimes it feels like I’ve had it for a lifetime. Seeing this thing in the garage or taking it for a drive after a tough day is truly an unexplainable experience for someone who isn’t interested in car culture. It’s lead me to meeting some of the best friends I’ve ever had and so many awesome opportunities in the 20,000 miles I’ve driven it. Finally got to see comet C2023/A3 last night in St. Mary’s after all the cloudy nights from the recent hurricanes. These naked-eye visible comets are a really special experience so I highly recommend checking it out for yourself in the next couple of days before it’s too dim to see. This is a stack of about 25 images on the Fuji GFX100S and Mitakon 65mm f/1.4 lens at 1.5 seconds each, ISO 3200, and f/2. Had the chance to do some light painting a few weeks ago after the last hurricane knocked the power out in town for a few days and allowed us to actually see the night sky from the waterfront. Not too bad for a spontaneous shot using an iPhone flashlight. This is also a vertical mosaic somewhere around 166 megapixels that I shot on my medium format @fujifilmx_us GFX100S and @zhongyi.optics 65mm f/1.4. Earthshine I’ve been meaning to post this here but it slipped my mind while working on a new video about galaxy season. This is a composite HDR made from photos ranging from 1/1000th of a second all the way to 4 seconds. Might be tough to see on social media, but if you zoom in to the left of the corona and see two bright ‘stars’ very close together, you’re actually looking at the @iss ! This photo was my main goal for the 2024 eclipse and I’m pretty happy with the results. It required a lot of new and unfamiliar techniques in post processing to bring out the faint details in the corona, solar prominences, as well as the dimly lit face of the moon from the light reflecting off the earth. Maybe I’ll revisit this type of edit in the future after some practice to see if I can improve at all. Two days later and I still don’t have the right words to describe this experience. Absolutely awe inspiring—so much so that I get chills every time I think about it. It’s no exaggeration when I say that this was truly the most incredible moment of my life so far. I was able to put this short timelapse together using a combination of two rigs: a @canonusa 5D Mark III through an Askar 103 APO (700mm) and a @sonycine FX3 through a @sonyalpha 100-400mm GM. I used to FX3 to shoot video from about 1 minute before totality to 1 minute after and blended it into the still frames being shot on the Canon. I had to hand align every frame before and after totality so although it’s short it was an incredible amount of work. Not perfect by any means, but I’m thrilled with the result. Luckily, I was able to automate both rigs so I was mostly hands off and able to enjoy the moment with very little stress. The moment when totality hit, I completely forgot about my cameras and just stood there in pure amazement and wonder over what I was seeing. Absolutely unforgettable.
