2026년 5월 28일(목) 닻올림 연주회 234회에서 공연하는 Martin Howse 마틴 하우스 @microresearchxx 씨의 소개글입니다. Martin Howse 마틴 하우스는 영국 출신의 아티스트이자 프로그래머, 이론가로 현재 베를린을 기반으로 활동하고 있다. 그의 작업은 컴퓨팅, 글쓰기, 퍼포먼스, 교육을 넘나들며, 지구(earth), 소프트웨어, 인간 정신 사이의 관계를 탐구하는 학제적 연구를 중심으로 전개된다. 오픈 랩 형식의 프로젝트들을 다수 기획하며, 전 세계에서 퍼포먼스, 워크숍, 강연, 전시를 이어왔고, 도시 환경과 인간의 신체적·감각적 관계를 탐색하는 작업으로 잘 알려져 있다. Martin Howse @microresearchxx 렉처 퍼포먼스 ERD/MASQ 본 프레젠테이션 ERD/MASQ는 ERD의 비전(秘傳, esoteric)적인 유로랙 모듈과 최근의 earth/MASQ 플랫폼 및 연구의 이면(가면)을 들여다보는 퍼포먼스 겸 강연으로, Howse의 작업 과정을 보여주고 MASQ 점술 프로토콜을 시연할 것입니다. ERD/MASQ는 지구가 어떻게 전산 및 통신 인프라의 기반으로 간주되는지, 이것이 지구와 우리와 지구의 관계(추출)에 어떤 영향을 미치는지, 지구가 우리 자신의 논리 구조 내에서 어떻게 드러나는지, 그리고 지구와 정신을 관통하는 이 쌍둥이 운동 사이의 복잡한 피드백 루프와 지오-알고리즘을 어떻게 고려할 수 있는지(’지질학적 되기‘)를 살펴봅니다. earth/MASQ는 특정 지상의 장소와 위치가 제공하는 물질적 가능성에 전적으로 좌우되는, 인간 및 비인간 언어와 발성(vocalisation)을 집단적으로 변형(masquerade)하기 위한 확장 가능한 일련의 비전적인 계산 프로토콜 및 도구 세트입니다. earth/MASQ는 인간의 말, 발성, 언어를 타자적이고 이질적인 물질적 과정들, 지역의 살아있는 및 무생물적 존재들, 그리고 장소의 우주적, 대기적, 지질학적 조건들에 열어둡니다. ERD/MASQ presentation is a performance/lecture looking behind the scenes (masks) of ERD esoteric eurorack devices, and the more recent earth/MASQ platform and researches, showing working processes, and demonstrating MASQ divination protocols. 현대 미술가, 이론가, 모듈러 생산자, 그리고 ‘기인’ Martin Howse (UK)가 서울을 방문합니다. 28일 닻올림에서 휴먼인프라와 함께 공연을 하는데요 그의 작업 세계를 소개하고 조우하기 위해 최근 작업 ‘ERD/MASQ’에 대한 시연을 포함한 렉처 퍼포먼스(우루루 26일) 또한 기획하게 되었습니다. 모듈러를 처음 시작했을 때 그 높은 자유도에 이끌려 최고로 난해한 모듈들만을 찾아다니던 때가 있었습니다. 그러던 중 ‘ERD’라는 이름의 모듈을 만드는 빌더를 알게 되었는데 특정한 토양에서 채취한 흙을 넣어 디스토션 회로의 일부로 삼는 모듈이라든지, 제의를 위한 향을 피울 수 있는 (전압 제어) 발열 장치를 내장하고 있는 괴상한 모듈 따위를 만드는 사람이었습니디. 당시에 ‘와 정말 모듈로 예술을 하는구나‘ 이런 생각을 했었는데요 한참 뒤에 ERD를 운영하는 게 Martin Howse 이고 그가 정말 이런 저런 작업들로 악명 높은 예술가였다는 걸 알게 되었습니다. On this auspicious day (Ren Zi) I'm delighted to announce the release of ERD/POPULUS for the populus! Populus is the first fully touch-based and recursive patch pin matrix, allowing for the touchable toggling of an entire (passive) patch/switch matrix, comprising seven inputs and seven outputs: connect or disconnect between patch points using touch, and toggle using incoming, outgoing (planetary) signals, or any external skin source. Fingers, body parts and worms replace pins, cables and switches for performative switching of all skin signals, severing and suturing complex feedback paths. Populus is the latest addition to the ERD/geomantic toolkit which rounds out the ERD system comprising All the Colours of the Noise, caput draconis, TOAD, and VIA. These can also be used in any system as generic utilities with an emphasis on routing, switching and fine control. The reverse figure of POPULUS is itself. POPULUS merges with any geomantic figure.
