This cross eyed goofball resembles a cartoon character more than an insect right? I can't stop laughing at their silly faces. Adorable! It's a derbid planthopper. The family Derbidae (commonly called derbids) is a large and diverse group of planthoppers (Fulgoroidea, Hemiptera), widely distributed in the tropics and also found in subtropical and temperate regions. It includes more than 150 genera and more than 1500 species. This one's the funniest though. 😂

Not a great technical photo but how could I resist sharing this baby green tree frog (Litoria caerulea). Funny how frogs are always portrayed on lily pads in story books. I've seen thousands of frogs and this is the first time I've seen one in this setting. I was actually shooting bees and spotted this little beauty. How adorable!

Not my finest macro moment… but in my defence, she was upside down, flapping in the wind like a tiny chaotic chandelier, wedged in the most awkward spot imaginable 😅
This is Celaenia calotoides, a bird-dropping spider (yes, she is fully committed to looking like literal bird poo). Absolute master of disguise, elite moth catfisher… and currently a very dedicated mum guarding EIGHT egg sacs like a tiny, unbothered queen.
Meanwhile I’m out here doing full body contortions trying to get focus… she’s just vibing, raising a family, and pretending to be debris.
Honestly, we’re both doing our best.

Aka ( spiny leaf insect)
Looks like it’s about to star in a sci-fi horror… but nope, she's just a tiny vegan with built in salad scissors.
Those “alien” bits are:
Mandibles (leaf-chomping jaws)
Palps (little taste testers)
Everything else is just for holding the salad steady
Basically....all those mouth parts just to eat eucalyptus leaves like a polite little lady.
