I’ve been waiting a long time to say this: my television show, ‘NEW WORLD BEAT’ has been acquired by TVO! With great pride I served as executive producer, director, producer, editor, and writer.
I dreamed of making this show many years ago, while transitioning my focus of work from music to film. For over a decade, I shared the stage with some of Toronto’s finest musical artists, many of whom had no support from labels or management. After any given show, I’d often think that each of those artists deserved their own documentary. Those thoughts evolved into the desire to construct a cinematic tapestry, focusing on multiple artists who represented the Toronto music scene.
I pitched the concept in 2020. We shot it in 2021. I edited it in 2022. We shopped it in 2023. And we finally get to present it in 2024.
‘New World Beat’ shines a light on a multitude of artists making vastly different kinds of music, informed by their diverse backgrounds, disciplines, and points of view. The common thread weaved throughout this tapestry is the candid perspective of a city that each of these artists love, which may or may not love them back...
