About a year ago @michaelmayerdir and I formed Practical Mayhem to produce and co-produce theater that was important to us. @liberationbway was our first co-producing project and my goodness, what a way to start. Yesterday it was honored with 5 @thetonyawards nominations, for the contributions of @besswohl@yesimwhitneywhite@susannah.flood@qween_jean and #BetsyAidem. We couldn’t be prouder to be associated with this incredible work of art.

Like a proud papa, I was very happy to share in the joy of @leamichele at @sardisnyc for her portrait reveal! All three of the indelible performances in the shows we made together represented! @chessbway@funnygirlbwy and #springawakening
What a great honor to be invited to see Judy’s “lucky jacket” installed at the archives at Carnegie Hall. When you see this tiny garment it up close, you get a visceral sense of how diminutive she was. It makes her titanic performance on that big, open stage all the more impressive. Judy at Carnegie Hall is not only one of the most significant influences on my own work and life, but it remains one of the greatest live performances ever captured on vinyl. This is a phenomenal moment to listen to it again, or, if you are as lucky as the jacket, an opportunity to experience the album for the first time.
Huge congratulations to the #ChessBway company, the first ever Broadway Ensemble Award winners for Most Outstanding Ensemble, taking home 4 awards in total ♟️

🚀WE CHOSE TO GO TO THE MOON 🌕
We are pleased to announce that John Monsky’s acclaimed production, “We Chose to Go to the Moon,” returns to Carnegie Hall on April 7 & 8. Experience the euphoria and the heartbreak of America’s space race in this immersive performance narrated by historian John Monsky and directed by Tony winner Michael Mayer (Chess, Spring Awakening). With his signature mix of soaring music, archival film and photography, historic flags, and personal stories of all those involved—from astronauts and their families, including Neil and then-wife Janet Armstrong, to the unsung heroes of Mission Control—Monsky explores one of America’s greatest accomplishments in singular fashion. Ian Weinberger (Chess, Hamilton) conducts top Broadway vocalists and Orchestra of St. Luke’s in music from the era—popular, patriotic, and protesting, from “Fly Me to the Moon” and “Rocket Man,” to “Space Oddity” and “My Generation”— transporting audiences from quaking launch pads to tension-filled living rooms where families sat glued to their televisions, culminating in the fulfillment of President John F. Kennedy’s challenge to the nation on July 20, 1969.
