Spent all day Wednesday in the studio with @yarnwire and @oegra mixing Midnight Choir. This is a flashback to the recording session in January 2025. Yesterday heard the dress rehearsal and world premiere of @davidlangmusic ‘the wealth of nations’ @nyphilharmonic Not To Be Missed! 3 more performances if you are in NYC.
This Wednesday, 25 February at @luxnijmegen : the premiere screening of MUTED, a documentary by Bas Andriessen (no relation). The film follows the making of a collective work by @michaelgordon481 , Julia Wolfe, @davidlangmusic , and Louis Andriessen, created in close collaboration with violinist Monica Germino.
The music, composed in response to a diagnosis of hyperacusis, explores extreme softness and experiments with a range of decibel levels. The performance features violin and voice, frame violins, an extensive collection of mutes, and the specially created whisperviolin, built by luthier Bas Maas and designer Marcel Wanders. Texts are from Don Marquis’ Archy and Mehitabel.
🖊 “Muted may be the quietest piece ever written for violin, but it was riveting in this intimately powerful performance.” – The New York Times

And ... That's a wrap on the @michaelgordon481 What to Wear recording! When have I ever had this much fun in the studio? Bravo to #DamianLeGassick for producing these fabulous sessions. Can't wait for y'all to hear this one.
Summing up a Richard Foreman show is a fool’s errand, but the composer Michael Gordon gave it a shot. “It’s a piece with four Madeline Xs,” he said of the opera “What to Wear,” his collaboration with Foreman. “They’re trying to find things to wear, they are undergoing analysis, experts are confused about them and there’s a duck.” “I hope the piece is fun,” Gordon said, laughing, “I think people will come and go, ‘I don’t know what just happened, but I had a great time.’ @nytimes photos by @george_etheredge story by @doublediamondev Hear it all at @bam_brooklyn this week!!! @bethmorrisonprojects@prototypefest #whattowear
