Big thanks to @icareifyoulisten and @drmckaypiano for such a lovely artist feature in honor of our 20th anniversary! It was a joy reflecting on where we started, how we’ve grown, and what’s next, plus some amazing quotes from legends Annea Lockwood and George Lewis! “I’ve known Yarn/Wire for over a decade, and I am, like Venus Williams at age 17 at the US Open, super-stoked about my work with this new music superquartet on my April 2026 New York Philharmonic concerto grosso. Their unmatched, insightful virtuosity and post-genre, creolized perspicacity continues to inspire as we try to present new experiences and ways of being and doing.” George Lewis Full profile at #linkinbio #20years #music #chambermusic #icareifyoulisten #piano #percussion #anniversary #primoartists

Still reflecting on two emotional performances of Be Holding as part of the Carnegie International in Pittsburgh last week. It was an honor to share this project, one we’ve lived with for so many years, at such a legendary festival at the @carnegiemuseumofart with Brooke O’Hara directing and music direction by @dr.tyshawnsorey_official This iteration featured Ross Gay reading his own work alongside with amazing @davegpoetry . We’ve heard this text a hundred times, and it still feels moving, new, and deep each time… Many thanks to @kes.oli for lending his talent to this project and joining us as a guest percussionist, and much gratitude to the entire staff at the Lovette YMCA, along with the fantastic group of teenagers who brought so much joyful energy to this experience! Also to @hungrymonsters for making it all sound so good (no small feat in a gym!), to @iamitohane for shaping such a dramatic visual world, and @mdeins for the amazing video design. We’re also immensely grateful to @solichpiano and @yasinewyork for providing two grand pianos for these performances. Until next time! 🏀❤️🎹🥁 PC: Zachary Riggleman #carnegieinternational #rossgay #beholding #newmusic

We spent a fantastic week in Aarhus for the @sporfestival ! What a privilege to bring back @simon_steenandersen ‘s epic Grosso and perform it with the @aarhussymfoni under the direction of @josephbastian81 ! The following day we performed a brand new piece by Mads Emil Dreyer as well as one of our longtime favorites, Orchestra for Black Butterflies by @lisastreichmusic There was a theme through the week: each piece came with its own slightly unreliable extra band member: a Leslie speaker for Grosso, a music box for @madsemildreyer ‘s new work and motors for Lisa’s piece… all adding their unpredictable charm to the performances. Massive thanks to the incredible production teams at the @musikhuset and the @sporfestival for making everything run smoothly, no small feat given the sheer amount of gear involved in these performances! And finally, our sincere apologies to the @radissonbluaarhus for the heroic quantities of smoked salmon consumed at their breakfast buffet. #newmusic #extrabandmember

We are so happy to bring back Be Holding for two performances at the 59th Carnegie International in Pittsburgh next week ✨ A collaboration between director Brooke O’Harra (@brookeoharra ), composer Tyshawn Sorey (@dr.tyshawnsorey_official ), poet Ross Gay, and Yarn/Wire, Be Holding draws on Gay’s poem: a love song to legendary basketball player Julius Erving, also known as “Dr. J.” The work connects Dr. J’s famously impossible move in the 1980 NBA Finals to Black flight and joy. Premiered in Philadelphia in 2023, Be Holding continues to evolve. This iteration features Ross Gay alongside David Gaines (@davegpoetry )as narrators, and includes a group of Pittsburgh teenagers who have been working closely with Brooke and Ross over the past months. The work will be staged on the basketball court at the @thelmalovetteypgh This project is very close to our hearts, we hope to see you there! Performances: Saturday, May 2 & Sunday, May 3 7:30 PM Tickets available at the link in bio. #beholding #poetry #carnegieinternational #newmusic #juliuserving

Where to begin! Bringing George Lewis’ concerto to life with the @nyphilharmonic was a completely electrifying experience. Last week was so full of pinch-us moments, from rehearsing with the amazing musicians of the NYPhil under the baton of Kwamé Ryan, to performing to a full and enthusiastic house! So many thanks: Thank you to @kwameryan for championing the piece and guiding us through this concerto, we couldn’t have asked for a better leader through this journey. Thanks to George for this groundbreaking piece, for trusting us with not one but THREE cadenzas and for such a rewarding few weeks working together. Thank you to all who joined us for these three nights, we were really moved by the warmth and support of our community. … ohne festen Wohnsitz was co-commissioned by the @nyphilharmonic and the @philharmonie_lux with the support of the Arlene and Larry Dunn Initiative for Afrodiasporic Music. We’re already excited to dive back into it in the Fall! 1- PC @londonisburning 2- backstage shenanigans with George Lewis 3- apex energy! 🙏 @mads_green_stone 4- @zoshadicastri captured our post concert bliss! #newmusic #worldpremiere #concerto

presents @lisastreichmusic@madsemildreyer , & @yarnwire [ concert ] Time : Fri • 19:30 - 20:30 Location : @aabnescene The acclaimed American quartet Yarn/Wire sets the tone for both Mads Emil Dreyer from Denmark and Lisa Streich from Sweden. Photo credits: (1) Bobby Fisher (2) Harald Hoffmann (3)David Stjernholm Orchestra of Black Butterflies  …is Lisa Streich’s reflection on the love of the orchestra and its potential transitoriness. It deploys a formation of four musicians who try to portray the orchestral apparatus. The two pianos are tuned a quarter-tone apart and are both motorized. On the one hand, the piece aims to illustrate spectral chords with just four musicians, and, on the other hand, to chase something utopian: Can you realize the possibilities of the orchestra with only four musicians and eight motors? The Letting Go …is a quiet, almost ritualistic piece written by Mads Emil Dreyer for the American quartet Yarn/Wire. It consists of five short movements and the total duration is around 15 minutes. The performers play small lyre harps with and without e-bows, a music box, and a selection of table percussion instruments. The piece is inspired by finding new instruments and setting up dialogues between them. The sonic opportunities that come out of this process and the feedback mechanism between abstract ideas of sound – and the curiosity of actual music-making – are what drive the inspiration. Details just announced for our second concert at the @sporfestival ! The day after Simon Steen-Andersen’s Grosso, we switch gears and present a more intimate program at the @aabnescene , featuring @lisastreichmusic ‘s Orchestra of Black Butterflies alongside a brand new piece by @madsemildreyer We’re always learning new skills and instruments, this time: lyras and a soloistic music box. We were so lucky to have Mads with us in the studio a little while back to fine-tune the details of this delicate and beautiful new work. See you in three weeks in Denmark! #sporfestival #worldpremiere #newmusic #chambermusic
