Rule no. 7 of live music photography: don’t forget the pre- or post-set artist portraits 💫 @forever.came.calling ’s music came into my life at the very end of 2011, when “Front Porch Sunrise” came up on my Tumblr feed. I first saw them live a few months later, in March 2012, and will never forget the spark of hope that lit in my chest when they played. I took photos of that show, and I’d take more photos of @_allergic2jerks & co. at venues in Ohio, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, Michigan… I didn’t shoot a single show in 2020 or 2021. Then in 2022, FCC announced a tour for the 10th anniversary of ‘Contender’ - on September 16, I drove across Philly where Joe and I sat down for an interview for @substreammagazine (I’ll put the link in my stories). We spoke for 45 minutes, a full-circle moment for both of us. Photographing their set that night was a reminder of just how much I love capturing live music. Rule no. 6 of live music photography: if there’s a balcony, you better shoot from it🫡 @thisisarizonamusic is a band I hold very close to my heart, and when they played @thewiltern last year, after the first 3 songs, you bet I raced up to the balcony to get these shots. I love capturing performances from a balcony: it shows everyone in the room in a beautiful collective experience, while simultaneously feeling particularly intimate. Rule no. 5 of live music photography: long days are part of the game, so you better be ready to grind 🔥 2025 started off with a bang: on January 1, I took the train to San Diego to shoot @elderbrook playing @propernye at @petcopark , then a few hours later, shot his @fngrscrssd afterparty at @eqsandiego . I spent the train ride down editing photos from a different show the night before, dropped my bags at my hotel & got food, then headed to the stadium. Sent over the first round of edits from Proper while the festival headliner played, then off to the nightclub (omg that show was STEAMY🤯😅) before getting a few more edits done before bed. I think I finished editing on the train ride home the next day. 💫 It’s my goal to work every New Year’s (bc let’s be real, in the EDM world especially, there’s some killer events on New Year’s)… here’s to hoping 2025 ends as great as it started 💫 #musicphotographer #elderbrook #propernye #propernyd #losangelesphotographer #laphotographer #lamusicphotographer #nightclubphotographer #edmphotographer #djphotographer
