Our favorite tortured poet ✍🏻 This Saturday, May 2, students and teachers across the country will attend screenings of Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin as part of HD Live in Schools. This opera was the first of three that the composer adapted from works by Alexander Pushkin, Russia’s national poet, who was also of African descent. 📚 Head to our link in bio to read a “Gannibal Lecture” on the topic!

It’s time to crown a winner! 👑 We’ve reached the final matchup of our March Madness bel canto bracket. In one corner, Nadine Sierra’s performance of “Ah! non credea mirarti” from Bellini’s La Sonnambula (2025). In the other, Martina Arroyo’s performance of “Una macchia è qui tuttora” from Verdi’s Macbeth (1973). Who do you think will take the title as Queen of Madness?

Extra, extra, read all about it! 📰 This week, students and educators across the country are gearing up for the Live in HD transmission of Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin on Saturday, May 2, as part of HD Live in Schools. In preparation, we’re diving deeper into the psychology of the title character—an archetype known across Russian literature of the 19th century as the “superfluous man.” 🎩 Head to the link in our bio to read more.

Signed, sealed, delivered 💌 We’ve reached the final opera in the 2025-26 season of HD Live in Schools with Tchaikovsky’s passionate drama Eugene Onegin, starring @asmikgrigorianofficial as the lovesick Tatiana and @barisamoilov as the urbane Onegin. As students and teachers across the country prepare for the Live in HD screening on Saturday, May 2, we’re taking a closer look at one of the opera’s highlights: Tatiana’s Act I Letter Scene. 🎵 Head to our link in bio to learn more about the musical structure of this iconic aria.

What a dream! 💫 Composer @gabrielalenafrank recently spent an afternoon at Mannes School of Music in anticipation of the Met premiere of El Último Sueño de Frida y Diego. Frank discussed her work and career with @mannescomposition students and faculty members @huang.ruo and @davidtlittle before coaching @mannesopera students on selections from the opera. Thanks to all organizers for a wonderful day; the future of opera is bright! Photos by Jenny Gorman / Met Opera

Can you Handel this? 🔥 Earlier this month we visited @sarahlawrencecollege for their Music Tuesday concert series, presented in collaboration with the Met Students program. Mezzo-soprano Lindsay Martin (@uninterruptedgirl ) and pianist Mariam Bombrun from @metoperalyadp presented a wide-ranging recital of works by Handel, Strauss, Offenbach, Rossini, Copland, and Jonathan Dove before answering student questions on all things opera. Sending a special shoutout to Met Students Ambassador Jackie Ward (@jackieeejw ) for spearheading this event! We can’t wait to come back soon. 🔗 Head to our link in bio to learn more about opportunities for Met Students.
