Friends! Strangers! Lovers! All! Join us for another Indigo Community Dye Day in Big Sur. Hosted on the Summer Solstice, this is an immersive afternoon of indigo dyeing, community engagement, and textile renewal. Rooted in sustainability and slow craft, this gathering invites you to bring well-loved garments back to life through the transformative process of natural indigo dyeing. Faded whites, stained linens, sun-worn cottons, and forgotten pieces are all welcome, honoring the beauty of reimagining what already exists. Together, we’ll explore the art of indigo dyeing in community: layering color, texture, and process into garments that carry history, memory, and everyday use. Every piece emerges entirely one of a kind! No experience necessary, simply bring natural fiber clothing or textiles you’d like to renew and a few items below. When: June 21 2026 1:00 to 4:00 PM Henry Miller Memorial Library 📍 48603 CA-1, Big Sur, CA 93920 Do I have to RSVP? Yes. Sign up and donation link in bio! Your RSVP and donation will give us an accurate estimate of materials needed so we can have enough indigo for everyone! What to expect: ✶ light intro to indigo dyeing ✶ fun, sustainable textile transformation YOU can do ✶ slow, hands-on art making for everyone ✶ community connection outdoors ✶ learn something new, relax on the lawn to music, and make something fun! What to bring: — 1–3 natural fiber garments or home textiles (cotton, linen, silk, hemp, wool) — pieces ready for a second life !!! — event is outdoors and remote in Big Sur. Bring water + snacks, anything you’d like or need to stay comfort outdoors — BYOG - bring your own gloves! kitchen gloves, or latex gloves you can wear while dyeing. Costs: Sliding Scale Donations $25-$100 for 1-2 items such as tee shirts, button down shirts $50-$150 for larger items or multiple items Dresses, pants, heavier fabrics, linens Please Donate! This is a donation-based gathering, donations support materials, supplies, artist, and a portion benefiting the Henry Miller Memorial Library! The event is self funded, donations are *deeply* appreciated. Photos from last year’s Indigo Community Dye Day! @mackensienoellephoto

A look back at a beautiful weekend at the Boonville Hotel, where I had the pleasure of teaching an indigo dye class as part of their Japanese Arts & Crafts weekend. @boonvillehotel It was a gift to spend time with such a thoughtful and fun group of students, sharing the process of working with a natural indigo vat. A true highlight of our class was watching each piece emerge from the vat and slowly transform, each one entirely its own work of art. I’m grateful to have shared the weekend alongside Suminagashi Artist Solange Roberdeau @solange_roberdeau and Sashiko artist Lindsey Hansen of @_the_future_past_ who were teaching their own specialty crafts, creating such a meaningful exchange rooted in material, care, and process. Thank you to @melindawellis for all that you do, and to @cozitea for your time and support assisting. Thank you to everyone who joined us, and to Boonville Hotel for hosting the first edition of what felt like a very special gathering!

Shibori days. I can’t speak highly enough of what a natural dye practice is. It is a way to leave the impression of nature and time in cloth, a way to hold the sweetness of these sunsets, textures and feelings from our nature world - the places and moments that leave you speechless and in awe - closer to you. Releasing new lovely natural dyed artworks on @freepeople this spring ✨ letting nature be my muse.
