MY NEXT GRAPHIC NOVEL from
@topshelfcomix @idwpublishing ā WHEN THE WORLD IS VAST
4 childhood friends attempt to reconnect as adults amidst a loneliness epidemic.
A new-adult dark coming-of-age romantic dramedy. Hopefully out in 2029!
I want to sincerely thank Chris Staros at Top Shelf for agreeing to take on this new project as well as my agent Julie Stevenson
@mmqalit . Being able to make a book on a pitch basis is wild. Iām grateful to be here.
Also meant to post this 2 months ago lol. But 1) I got side tracked by my corpo brainrot job, which I just quit a week ago(!) and 2) this appāwhich has become scarcely more than a parasocial dopamine casinoāhas become an anathema to me, and so Iāve been avoiding it. While this app may have benefited many artistsā (emphasis on artists, not ācontent creatorsā) careers (including mine, to some unknown but relatively trivial extent), I think that hopeful/helpful era has mostly ended. Itās not 2015 anymore. The app has reached a mature stage of enshittification (see Cory Doctorowās book)āaka platform decay.
Sure, there are benefits to this appāIāve met (in person) hundreds of incredible artists in the last year and without this app it would be harder to keep track of them. Itās truly been an honor to meet everyone, as well as meeting kids, parents, librarians, and teachers who read Dreamover (and even random people from youtube and tiktok who saw/reviewed Dreamover). This app has shown it can be useful for organizing events and activism. But in order to even use this app, including to use it to ākeep upā with our āmutualsā, we have to be subjected to an unbridled amount of targeted ads, of which there are so many that it far outsizes the finite (but seemingly infinite) reservoir of total daily eye-balls-on-app time (summed over the entire daily active user base). Not to mention that obviously everything, even these words, are auto ingested into meta ai so that your/my extended family can make extremely unfunny AI edits of family photos on The facebook.
