WE THREW A HOUSE PARTY AND Y’ALL SHOWED OUT. 🏠🔥
Last Thursday, we came together and raised nearly $30,000 toward acquiring 161 Jamaica Avenue — the future home of the East Brooklyn Liberation Center.
Emceed by our co-founder Al Scott Jr and the one and only Carla Marie Davis @carlamariexnyc , with the DJs keeping the whole night alive — @melbeatss@usb_ellen_j@simisola.system@dollnxtdoor y’all did that. 🎧
161 Jamaica Ave will be the first standalone commercial CLT building in NYC — a permanent community-owned space for East Brooklyn to organize, build power, and self-determine. This fundraiser brought us closer to making that real.
To everyone who came through, donated, and danced with us — thank you for believing in this vision. ✊🏾🌱
Ticket link in bio. Pay what you can and donate generously if you’re able. Tix will be available at the door and no one will be turned away for lack of funds.
Hosted by The Afrosocialist Caucus and Community Solidarity Committees of the NYC Democratic Socialists of America
In 1920s and 30s Harlem, Black tenants facing exploitative rents threw rent parties–charging admission at the door, hiring a pianist, selling food–to keep each other housed. Born out of the Great Migration and the Depression, these gatherings were mutual aid in its most joyful form: community pooling resources while building culture that would define a generation. Tonight we’re keeping that tradition alive.
On Thursday April 23 we’re keeping that revolutionary tradition alive, but instead of just raising funds to pay rent, we’re buying the whole damn house! All proceeds from HOUSE PARTY go toward purchasing 161 Jamaica Avenue for the ENYCLT and building a permanent HOME for community organizing in East New York for generations to come.

Started making beats in my mother’s attic over a decade ago!! Never knew how far I could take it or who I could inspire. My first time in the motherland off music and teaching and it still feels crazy!!
