There's a reason astronauts come back from space changed š
Seeing Earth from above has a way of shifting everything. That experience has a name, The Overview Effect, and it's exactly the kind of POV shift we need more of right now.
Plus, for nearly 60 years, @startrek has been asking us to imagine a future worth building and a species worthy of the stars.
So, at this year's summit, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds writer Bill Wolkoff and star Melissa Navia are joining former NASA astronaut Garrett Reisman and astronaut-in-training Manju Bangalore to talk about what happens when science and storytelling collide. And how that collision can expand what we think is possible on THIS planet.

Twinning & winning with my mom.
I love her smile.
Happy Motherās Day to all the moms & caregivers out there and the biggest, most furious hugs to anyone feeling in any way out of sorts on this day.

This year has been a DOOZY. Wonderfully fortuitous, ridiculously tumultuous, and profoundly life-changing. All, remarkably, in equal measure. And weāre only a third of the way in! The last eight weeks will take up at least a few chapters in the story of my time on this earth. But thatās for much later. š For now, letās start to catch upā¦
The Impact Lounge was the highlight of my Sundance Film Festival experience back in January. Engaging panels with inspiring filmmakers and truly transformative conversations in a space that was warm, welcoming, and electric. So I was over the moon (pun intended, Artemis II!) when they invited me to their 2nd annual Lumen Awards in Santa Monica to present the first-ever Frontier Award to Roddenberry Entertainment and Star Trek for 60 years of storytelling.
In keeping with the theme of the Lumen Awards ⨠a curated gathering during Oscars week designed for leaders who believe film & narrative media can move the world forward ⨠I celebrated alongside some of the best & brightest storytellers in not only my circle & life, but in the world of sci-fi & Star Trek. Actors, writers, editors, directors, producers, and all-around changemakers whose work behind & in front of the camera continues Gene Rodenberryās historic vision and upholds the legacy of a franchise that has inspired generations of fans all over the world and influenced real-world space exploration.
I also went flying after the show with former NASA astronaut, aerospace engineer, and fellow Trekkie Garrett Reisman. Which felt on brand for a day celebrating Gene Roddenberry, who was a decorated WWII combat pilotā¦and I play a pilotā¦named after a character he created who was also a pilot⦠š
I truly couldnāt have asked for a more pitch-perfect day in LA to cap off awards season, celebrate 60 years of Trek, and kick off the next chapter in the adventure that is my life, surrounded by friends, family & filmmakers who embody the ethos of the franchise I am lucky enough to get to represent. LLAP ātil the cows come home.

Baby curly hawk! Forever grateful to my mom who appreciated early on that my hair was thick, curly, and most adorable styled short & up. š She & my dad instilled in me a fierce confidence to rock who I am from as early as I can remember. I canāt imagine where Iād be today if not for their example and unwavering support.
In honor of Womenās History Month, what words of advice do you have for girls growing up in todayās world? What words of wisdom would you share with your younger self, knowing what you know now? Iāll start: Never conform. Do you. Unapologetically. It wonāt be easy, but itāll be worth it. (*It* doesnāt get better. YOU DO.) And surround yourself with a small group of incredible people who lift you up, keep you grounded, have your back, and are forever rooting for you. Who you canāt wait to hang out with on the carefree days. When all is said and done, thatās all that will have mattered.
See link in my bio ⨠bit.ly/girlwithshorthair ⨠for an essay I wrote during the pandemic about not fitting in, never giving up, and forever rocking whatever makes you (and your face) happy.

Helmsmen unite. Mind. Blown.
Thank you to the directors of the absolute gem of a film that is Beam Me Up, Sulu for inviting me to this weekās NYC screening and introducing me to a true inspiration of mine, on screen and in life. Actor, activist & author George Takei. My goodness. I remain in awe. We need more humans like him.

Surround yourself with people who inspire you. With artists who impel you to create work that provokes discourse. With friends, old & new, who surprise you with their conviction, rather than disappoint you with their apathy. With fellow humans who remind you that you are not alone and, in so doing, give you the energy & strength & belief needed for the road ahead.
If you missed our live reading of a Twilight Zone double-feature at Dynasty Typewriter, see the link in my bio to rent the livestream replay. It was an uplifting night of theatre in LA that raised funds for Hello Neighbor, a nonprofit serving immigrants & refugees at a time of extreme turbulence, and spotlighted the present-day hysteria taking hold in our neighborhoods through two memorably disturbing episodes of classic television that remain as timely & terrifying as when they first aired.
Thank you to @yetide Badaki for brilliantly bringing us together; to @marcbernardin for making it all work in practically no time at all; and to everyone facing this moment of crisis with a fiery resolve to not let history repeat itself.

What is the point of using our voices to tell allegories if we are silent when the world we live in needs our collective voices most? Join us THIS Saturday, Jan. 31st @ 7:30pm for LOVE THY NEIGHBOR, a one-night-only fundraiser with fan favorites performing a live double-feature reading of The Twilight Zoneās incredibly timely episodes: āThe Monsters Are Due on Maple Streetā and āItās A Good Lifeā at @dynastytypewriter . * See Link in My Bio * to buy tickets and watch the live-stream.
A portion of proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to @helloneighborhq , a nonprofit organization serving refugees, immigrants, and asylum seekers. āBy showing up for our neighbors, we create stronger and more vibrant communities for everyone.ā
Thank you to @yetide & @marcbernardin for acknowledging the urgency of this moment & bringing artists together to raise our voices in unison. The work it takes to do these things is never easy. May it inspire others who are watching to do the same. That is how this works. That is how we fight back. That is how we win.
See link in bio for tickets & more information. Please share. And stand up for your neighbors by speaking up. Stay vigilant, stay safe, stay strong. āØ

Fan art hits different. Especially when itās half the size of you and shows up as a surprise on your agentās doorstep.
A still from the Season 2 finale of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. Painted by Arthur Hatton, an artist in Appalachia & lifelong Trekkie, who displayed it at a convention in Knoxville last year before connecting with my con reps (thank you @joey_flaherty & @innovativeartists ) and sending it to me as a gift. Finally back from filming, Iāve only just gotten around to opening it. Gobsmacked by the detail, the scale, and the care.
Thank you to Arthur and all the fans who have shared their artwork. Your concerted talent is an indelible extension of our on-screen performances and a testament to the power of storytelling.
Looking forward to meeting more of you this year. If thereās a con youād like to see me at, let me know below. ā¬ļø And most importantly: Let the con know! š
